Hello everyone. I just found this website. I really wish I had found it earlier. I am scheduled to have the lap band surgery Thursday, November 15. I am having it done in Phoenix, even though I live in Tucson. I have to have it in Phoenix due to insurance coverage. My surgeon is Dr. Hilario Juarez.:faint: I am feeling really scared......yet excited. I am scared about the pain after the surgery. On the otherhand, I am excited to embark on this new chapter of life. I would love to hear from anyone who has had the procedure and their experiences.

It's normal to be nervous and scared before surgery. The pain is really not that bad. Just take your pain meds and take it easy for a while. Good luck on your surgery.

Congrats and good luck! The worst part for me was waiting to be wheeled back to the operating room (I was scheduled for 12pm surgery and they didn't take me back until 5:30pm). It's over before you know it. You'll hurt... but the pain is very manageable. Just take it easy when you get home and do exactly what your doc says. You'll be feeling better after a couple of days. Let us know how the surgery goes.

It was a breeze, the pain was minimal and after 2 days no narcotics. I was truly surprised. I was banded 19 Oct 07. I am on full solids, never hungary, or if I am, it feels very different from pre-surgery hungar. My physical pain levels have decreased 75-80%. I am so delighted. Hang in there, you can do this and the rest of your life will be so manageable, even with the ups and downs.

I am getting banded on Nov.14,2007, I'm suppose to come home on the same day. If I do I will let you know how everything went. I'm a little nervous also, but I have to keep my faith and know that everything will turn out o'kay.

Well congrats. and good luck. I was banded 3 weeks ago like you I felt the same way. The only real pain I had to complain about was the GAS!!!!! The shoulder pain was the worst. But after a week it was all gone, and I felt like nothing was done, just a little sore were the port is. Now I feel great. Let us no how you are doing.

I had the surgery on the 15th of November. The doctor was an hour late getting to the hospital, so I had an hour of sitting there. Luckily, my sister was able to come back and wait with me. The whole procedure lasted a little over an hour. I was on a pain pump the first 24 hours, then released home on a liquid pain med. The pain actually isn't very bad. I was really expecting horrible gas pain, as many people have said that they have had. I haven't had any. I guess I am very lucky. I am just a bit confused on how much I am supposed to eat. I understand that I am to have approx. 50 grams of Protein a day, but I don't understand how I am supposed to get it, being on limited liquids. I would love to hear from anyone with any suggestions. :clap2:

Thanks for the reply. I am new at this whole computer thing, so it was nice to actually get a reply. I made it through the surgery and have had no gas pain. I was prepared for that, and so far, nothing. I am on day 4 and haven't had any pain meds today. I am VERY sore over the incision where the port was placed. Kind of a buring pain, but if I move slowly, I can deal with it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
