Queenbee34 71 Posted January 3, 2019 I don't know how long I should actually take off of work. My surgery is on a Friday so I took off the weekend and that Monday. How many days or weeks did you guys take off. My Dr said it was up to me how many days I actually take off because I do not have a strenuous job and no lifting is required so he said a few days then I should be okay to return. chellyvillen 21 Posted January 3, 2019 I have an office job, and I took 2 weeks, but the last couple days I turned into half days and took some other half days for post-op appointments. I was a little out of it for the first week, not really hungry but weak and groggy. And I had a drain in after surgery for 2 weeks and it was uncomfortable, and I was wearing stretchy/lose pants that might not be appropriate for work. Good luck! It was the best decision I've ever made. 1 Queenbee34 reacted to this

It was the best decision I've ever made. I have a desk job as well. I wear a bulky lab coat and scrub pants. Maybe i'll go buy some yoga pants to help for the first couple of weeks. I do have a coworker that is on stand by incase I need more time off which is super sweet of her to do for me.
nenes78 528 Posted January 3, 2019 I had 2 1/2 weeks. I wish i could have taken more but my work was piling up. Desk job as well. The biggest challenge will be your energy levels. Upon my return I was exhausted by the end of the day. I had just started pureed's and was getting about 400-600 calories a day. My suggestion, take as much time as you can. 2 Queenbee34 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
sillykitty 10,776 Posted January 3, 2019 Everyone is different, but I would have been fine with only a few days off from a desk job. I work from home and technically took no time off at all. 1 Queenbee34 reacted to this

Letsgetgoing2018 448 Posted January 4, 2019 I work from home at a desk job. Took two full weeks off. Biggest hurdle for me was the exhaustion during the day. Had to take a nap during my lunch break. Don’t rush going back if you don’t have to. Give your body as much time to rest and heal as possible. 2 Queenbee34 and ProudGrammy reacted to this
TomCruzMomShoes 49 Posted January 4, 2019 I took off 7 working days (Thurs and Fri, then the whole next week). Honestly, working a desk job, you can go back after a few days BUT: - you will be tired, whether you work or not. Most people I speak to or read about say they have low energy for a few weeks. Not like low energy, but like "LOW, I need to lay the hell down wherever I am" energy LOL. Doesn't matter how non-strenuous the job is, staying awake may be an issue. - I personally had some soft stool issues the first few days (not comfortable dealing with that at work). Other people say they had the opposite in the first week or 2 post op My recommendation? At minimum, take off a few more days. Maybe go back to work mid-week like Wed or Thurs if you can. Or maybe do shorter days if you can work that out? That tired-ness is really annoying! 2 Queenbee34 and ProudGrammy reacted to this

Wanda247 908 Posted January 4, 2019 I took 2 1/2 weeks but wish I had taken longer, just for more rest. I went back on puree stage so that worked for me. 1 Queenbee34 reacted to this
RinRin 29 Posted January 4, 2019 I’m one week post op and have off currently until 2/1. Unfortunately we’re moving next week and even though I have a desk job, it’s phones, so my only off the phone time is lunch and break. Not super good for constant liquid drinking and needing to pee all the time. I’m hoping I’ll be back on some regular foods by 2/1 when I go back. I’m also still exhausted and I work a 10 hour shift so Im just going to enjoy the rest. 2 ProudGrammy and Queenbee34 reacted to this

Take your time, rest, - don't push yourself. When you go back to work, take full and half days. In my case, I returned to work immediately, when i came home. I am happily retired☺️ good luck kathy

I had my surgery on Dec 20, so have 4 days that were Holidays allowed me to take 2 full weeks off. I would try to take one full week if you can. Not because the work is hard, but because your energy may be very low, and you'll be tired. It could help give your body time to heal and recoup. Good luck! DreamBelieveAchieve 14 Posted January 11, 2019 I'm 2 weeks post op and have a further 2 weeks off work. Then it's a phased return over 4 weeks. I do have quite a strenuous job though and involves a lot of moving and handling of people and very long shifts. I feel fantastic in myself, but my energy levels can dip and I'm napping at least once a day. I think it's entirely individual though as people feel differently. If I had a desk job and didn't need to be on my feet all day, I recon I would have personally been able to go back after 2 weeks. x

I work retail they told me two weeks and then the doctor kept me out another 10 days past that because I wasn't hitting my fluids or Protein goals. Officially go back Monday! My mom went back after two weeks to her medical assisting job and then managed to push it to hard and it kept her out of work for almost a month.
