February 2019 weight loss buds

I sure hope insurance will cover it! I'm tentatively scheduled for my breast reduction and panniculectomy (apron skin removal) on February 26 of next year. The panniculectomy can't be done until one year after my gastric bypass. I'm pretty scared out of my wits and do not look forward to more surgery, but I know if I don't schedule it I will chicken out. My consultation was for the breast reduction only and here I am pretty sure I'm going to have it all done at once based on the surgeon asking me if I wanted to consider the panniculectomy. I have to do more research. I think my insurance will cover both surgeries, but the surgeon's nurse is going to verify with an insurance rep (she said her research online seems to imply it will be covered). The panniculectomy is not a Tummy Tuck (a Tummy Tuck involves tightening the muscles). I think I can pay extra for this as it would include a "contouring," but I never plan to wear a bikini and it sounds even more painful than the panniculectomy. Anyone else going to do a panniculectomy or have spoken to a surgeon about it yet?

I would suggest not worrying about it too much right now. I know Feb will come up pretty fast, but you still have 35 pounds until you reach goal, and if you wait even longer after reaching goal, you may find that your mind will change. I started out 24 pounds heavier than you and a lot of it was right in my tummy. As I lost weight, I kept feeling this dangling, disfiguring mass around my abdomen, But as I reached goal and upped my exercise, things have really tightened up, even at my age of 63. I was seriously considering a panniculectomy, arm lift, and inner thigh lift a few months ago, but now, I wouldn't even think of it. The skin really has shrunk up a lot. Yes , there are loose bits, but I'm not wearing a bikini, either. My boobs are the only things that get looser and draggier, and there is absolutely no hope for them. But I'm not planning to enter a wet T-shirt contest any time in the near or far future! Anyway, give it some time more time and you may be surprised at how things change in the next 6-12 months.

Thanks AZhiker--I really didn't think there was a way to get rid of the apron skin. I'm at 160 right now and feel as if I'm at my maintenance weight as I haven't lost more over the last few months. Who knows, though, I might make my goal weight. I've always had large breasts (even when i was thin) so I know that I won't lose more there, but it's interesting what you say about the stomach. Will the skin really tighten up? Any exercises that you noticed that make a difference?

Hi, all. All of our stuff finally arrived in Australia from the United States and we are busy unpacking. I found my scale today, which is the same one I used after surgery until the movers came in July. Good news--it's showing 136 pounds, which was the same reading I had been getting on other scales, so I guess it's accurate. Not bad after being on the road for weeks and eating in restaurants, including in Spain (yum!) and Sweden.

I may have mine in February but won’t know for a month or two. I’m nervous and excited.

Please let us know what kind of plastics you plan on having. Right now that topic is really starting to take over my thoughts.

Funny— this time 1 year ago I was obsessing about WLS, and now I’m doing the same with plastics.

I’ve decided that by February— one year anniversary— that I’ll plan to have a couple of consults.
I’m definitely going to work on face first. As much as I hate my ET butt, nobody outside of my marriage sees that, but my face is the first thing anyone sees.

Plan is to save more $$$ into my HSA, work a bit extra and by March/April have some kind of facelift/turkey neck work done.

Hey guys... at 218 now and scale won't move. I'm so sick of the gym too. Any advice?

Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have found that gym/exercise has a minimal effect on weight loss. If you are stalled, you should look closely at your diet to make sure you are compliant. However, stalls are a normal part of the process and you should not necessarily be alarmed. It seems that our bodies need to take a little breather from time to time to adjust to the weight loss.

Same advice
I started Pilates right after surgery not to have as a weight-loss tool, but to tone up and strengthen my body as I was already losing weight from the surgery. The biggest boost I get from it is the knowledge that I can be focused and strong and can sculpt muscles where I didn’t even realize I had them. Being able to hold plank for 3 minutes is pretty awesome and I can kick ass at it, but it’s not exactly the kind of thing that’s gonna burn a zillion calories at the end of the day.

I’ve never in my life been able to out-exercise a bad diet—- don’t think anyone really can.
Yes exercise is important, but it alone will never get us where we need to be.

Drinking Water, getting in the Protein and keeping calories below RMR is the key.

Wizardry! Somehow, during the last few weeks, I've eaten nearly a box of Girl Scouts Thin Mints and an array of fun-sized Halloween candy. After a 2-month stall, I lost 4.5 lbs. I was beating myself about the sweets and so thankful the scale showed mercy. I do need to get back on track with more Protein and Water, but am glad that the calories did not latch on. I can't explain it. Maybe there is just a delay effect going on. Darn this time of year!

Take the weight loss win. I have the same thing, sometimes, I think I am doing everything right and the scale does not budge. Then, I eat more and lose weight. Go figure. Happy for you

We are all going to slip up now and then. It's the end result that matters, not the little ups and downs along the way. Don't beat yourself up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
