Taylor that stuck feeling has happened to me twice with hamburger patties and/or dry chicken not with a sauce! Horrible feeling

I did ok with the patty last night. It was just over 3oz raw, then grilled and I ate about 2/3rds of it last night, then had the rest for lunch. I even ate it with sf ketchup, but I wasn’t being mindful of chewing and slowing down, which is a big problem for me.

Oh no!! That must’ve been horrible! I don’t know if any of y’all have heard this, but my team gave me this info for times when food gets “stuck”.

image-0.00298023223876953.jpg

meat tenderizer? Who'd have thought? I also see the papaya enzyme. That has helped my digestion. Do y'all eat an ounce every ten minutes? I take a small bite, chew it to mush, then put my fork down while I swallow the food. I maybe should be even eating more slowly. My new plan is to read a book while I'm eating, committing to two pages before the next bite. I know if I'm just sitting down to eat with nothing else going on, I will get too impatient.

Thanks for the Protein Bar recommendations. Do you think having a Pure Protein or Quest bar for lunch is a good choice? I'm in need of variety and one of these brands seems like a good choice to me. No?

Hi folks been a while.

i figured I’d check in let you know what I’ve been up to and tell my story.

Start with Stats:

5’9”

surgery date Feb 20th

surgery weight 255

today’s weight: 208

47lbs gone forever.

Activity levels. I’ve been hitting the gym lifting weights for 20-30 min a day every morning.

Now, you guys aren’t going to like this part. After 3 weeks liquid diet I went straight to high fat low carb Keto diet eating solids meats. Mainly grilled chicken, steak, sausage etc. I emphasize high fat low carb. I average max 50 carbs a day from any source, period. That includes sugars and veggies. I have coffee with half and half every morning. I eat Protein via meats, nuts, and supplements primarily. Daily calorie intake is 600-800.

I weigh myself daily, and log the weight to track it religiously. I expect to have lost 50 lbs prior to my appointment with the surgeon next Monday.

I don’t have so much of a goal weight, but goal measurements. The below pics are me 7 years ago prior to changing jobs and becoming more sedentary. I weighed 200ish lbs back then. I don’t have that level of muscle anymore, but the goal is to get back to being as fit as that, but much smaller. There is no way I’ll ever be able to eat the calories required to be that big again.

Point of all this is to say, everyone’s journey in this started and will end in different places. Make the beSt of the choice you made, and know that there is always a way, when you have the will to make the change.

Stay positive, stay healthy, and make smart choices.

So, now that the weight is starting to come off, I'm beginning to see the saggy skin, and I have a pretty good idea how it's going to progress as I continue to lose. I knew intellectually this was going to happen, but it's still pretty shocking to see it in the mirror. And it's not pretty. Anyone else already experiencing this?

Recidivist- I’m noticing the skin mostly in my arms so far, but I know it’s going to bad. I try to remind myself that I didn’t look good in clothes or naked at my high weight, at least I’ll look good in clothes at goal, lol. It’s not like I was running around naked proud of the way I looked at 268lbs, so no change there.

Holy cow you guys have been busy!
So I weighed in this morning and I lost a whole 0.2 pounds over the weekend
Still, it put me at exactly 3 pounds for the week and I’ve never had a 3 pound week since week 2 so I’ll take it.
Fighting a bit of Constipation and Fluid retention so I know there’s still progress to be made.

It was a weird day and I’m attributing most of it to a lack of sleep last night.
Woke up to my alarm at 6am hungry (which has never happened before) but I still didn’t have any “food” til 10 am.
Even though I battled the hungries today, I had a full 11 hr shift and couldn’t risk making myself sick due to trying to eat in the morning.
I literally watched the clock all day for when I could eat next.
I ate at 10 am (7oz milk and 5 almonds) then again at 1pm (leftover steak bites-2 ounces weighed- and 1/4 cup cottage cheese) then I ate AGAIN at 4:30 (7oz more milk) then had a Pilates class after work and friggin ate again at 9pm (1 ounce Brie and 5 baby shrimp).
Just logged my food and I consumed almost 800 calories today, which is a record post-surgery.

I have this dread feeling in the pit of my stomach that I’m going to climb on the scale and I will have gained 3 pounds.
Don’t think I can face the scale for a few more days, but I also wanted to share the bad day I’d had.
Gonna try to hit bed very soon because that alarm is going off again at 6am and I don’t think I can stand 2 hungry days in a row.

I did drink lots of Water and right now I’m finishing up a bottle of water which will put me just over 84 oz for the day.

Thanks for sharing.

Honestly I pretty much went from purées in week 3 to regular meat thereafter.
I still don’t have much room for much beyond Protein, but by late in the day my sleeve will hold 3/4-1 cup food and I pack the protein in.

I’ve never been a fan of Protein Shakes or bars, so I decided to consume whole food and take the chance that I might not get my protein goals hit some days.

I do drink at least 8-12oz milk daily, so I think I’m getting pretty close with that

Sheri- I think you did great resisting the urge to eat! It’s not easy. Maybe your body just needed a calorie up day.

I just got back from a 2 mile walk with the last part being up hill and I am beat, lol. I’m going to hop in the shower, then relax and drink a Protein Drink. Hoping that keeps me from a snack tonight.

We are surgery twins 2/20/19 but I've only lost about 19 pounds. I'm losing very slowly and admittedly, I'm jealous of other's progress, and now you are on my list too! But I started at a lower BMI so I knew that could happen. I need to incorporate exercise; I think that would help a lot. Thanks for sharing your progress!

I was 35 BMI day of surgery. I believe lifting definitely is helping. I eat eggs and bacon every morning directly after the gym. I have never had an issue losing weight and getting fit when I decide to put the effort in. This surgery, for me, was to prevent esophageal cancer and allow me to finally get off the GERD meds. The hiatal hernia I had caused the worst GERD symptoms and it took a heavy role on my sleep schedule. Now I get 8 hours a night, have no reflux, and my energy levels are through the roof.

No matter what, exercise/activity is always the key to being healthy and Diet is the the lock you put that key Into.

OK so I didn’t die. But I did have to take anti-nausea medication and now I have a headache. I tore off most of the tortilla and ate was probably equivalent to one chicken strip size piece of chicken with some lettuce. It’s been like this a lot for me lately.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
