February 2019 weight loss buds

Recommended Posts

I've been having coffee pretty frequently with no problems. Originally I went with Decaf but now I'm back to costco Breakfast blend regular. I would add I only drink 12 oz a day. Congratulations to Recidivist,Dubchild,Sheribear and Marine. You guys are doing great! ( hope I didn't miss anyone with the big weight losses)

My update!

Surgery was 2/25 so I'm like 5 weeks out. Down approximately 34 pounds. I'm down 3 inches each on my hips and waist which is exciting!

Still technically on a "blended foods" diet but have cheated a little with some over cooked roasted potatoes and some noodles - mostly because I just got back from a week and a half in China!

Travelling was tough, but mostly because I felt like I was missing out on the culture by not being able to have the food. I packed Protein Shakes and ate mostly eggs, a little tofu, a tiny bit of potato or noodles, and Soup.

I finally have a tiny bit of an appetite but still am mostly just eating because I'm supposed to. I would say my energy is at about 80% of pre-surgery levels.

Overall feeling great! Looking forward to seeing my doctor on the 10th and hopefully getting approval to have more variety in my foods! Good thing I love eggs, cottage cheese, and yogurt lol

Great job! I imagine the time change alone going to China would be exhausting (I've been there twice and it's a journey!). Sounds like you are right where you are supposed to be. I had surgery 12 days before you and I'm now eating chili (with ground beef and kidney beans), chicken breast, and bits of other food here and there. I finally can take whole pills without having to crush them (wahoo!). At 6 weeks post op I was advised that it's OK to eated steamed veggies, but to avoid roasted or raw veggies for now. Like you, I lived on eggs and cottage cheese during weeks 5 and 6. I still have two Protein Shakes a day (one for breakfast and one after dinner).

Has anyone been givin any guidelines towards coffee or tea? I was told they’d rather us not go back like ever again but I’ve been having little sips here and there
I wasn’t given any guidelines, but I tried to have coffee twice since surgery day.
Both times it made me EXTREMELY nauseated, which is saying a lot because I have a very strong stomach.
I’m going to keep trying it every so often though because I miss it so bad

I was told absolutely no caffeine and no Decaf coffee either ... Interesting that my program was so strict and others not at all!

Hello, all! Today is my one-month anniversary since surgery. Here is where I am now:

- I have lost 35 pounds since surgery, which I think it phenomenal--no complaints there!

- I'm feeling better overall. The major issues I had in the first couple of weeks have all resolved and I'm now a "normal" bypass patient.

- I am never hungry and never have cravings. I still have to force myself to eat and get enough Protein.

- I'm a little bored and frustrated by the lack of variety in my diet at this point. I'm hoping that will get better down the line.

- I've come to terms with the fact that I've had the surgery. (You may recall that I said earlier that I regretted it.) I can't say I'm happy with it yet, but I do realize that it was the right thing to do for my health.

This is fabulous!
Wow, I do remember you stating regrets so I’m glad you’re happier with it than you were last month.
Totally get the coming to terms aspect. I have a 4 week rotating work schedule and trying to figure out when I’m going to eat is difficult.
Previously I would eat whenever I got the chance and now having to be more structured is kind of a pain in the butt. Spontaneity is gone and a lot more planning is the norm.
You think you understand before surgery that you’re ready to give up the food, but it’s more than the actual food, it’s the social and feeling of well-being that comes out of it. That’s the part that is more difficult to come to terms with.

That’s awesome. Daaaaang 34 pounds in 5 weeks is incredible.
Lol, I’m 8 weeks out tomorrow and I’m at 31 pounds lost.
You will love moving on to things like eggs and cottage cheese.
Honestly I get over 3/4 of my Protein from dairy.

I get on here and read when I’m beating myself up. After gloating about my bad eating habits and lack of exercise no one to blame but myself. 31 pounds post surgery sounds like progress! I’m recalibrated and back on plan as of this morning! I only lost a pound in the last week - 5 weeks post op. Maybe that was my stall week.

My next goal is -5.8 pounds. That will get me into a weight range that I haven’t seen in many many years. I can do this! I may go to Vegas on 4/23. Got hired for a new job yesterday and we are working out the details. I think I can lost 7-10 pounds by then, right?!? In 20 days...

I did the same thing. I switched to Decaf 2 weeks before my surgery and now I'm back to drinking my medium size morning cup at the office. I felt guilty at first, and I didn't think about it anymore until your post. lol :-)

Spontaneity, Gone.

Friday Night with friends, Gone.

Socializing, Gone.

Gone, or on hold. :-)

Everyone just has to wait right now. I have to take care of "Me" first.

You CAN do this.
Remember, all the questionable choices we make now are gonna bite us in the butt once this honeymoon phase is over.
Pretty much beat myself up every day for one thing or another and it’s a hard habit to break but I’m convinced we NEED to break that habit as well.
This week as part of my accountability, I’m weighing every day because that’s incentive to drink drink drink.
So far, I’ve lost 0.6 pounds since Monday morning.
Do I think I “deserved” to lose more? The honest answer is yes. But I’ll take it. Today is my day off so I’m pushing for 96 ounces today and knowing I’m going to get back on that scale tomorrow morning is keeping me motivated to keep drinking.

Yep. My husband is the real champ here because he is also putting all of these things on hold
Luckily for him, he has to travel about once a month on business so he’s actually enjoying taking clients out to dinner because the poor man finally gets to eat out 🤣🤣

And speaking of staying accountable: I only eat 2 meals per day now because my sleeve still won’t handle anything other than Water for the first few hours I’m awake.
So it’s very important that I have primarily Protein only
Here is lunch: 2oz lamb and some of that divine kimchee.

2 meals a day - maybe I should try.

My problem is snacking. I have 2 modes to choose from : 1. Hunger/light, constant Snacking or 2. “Meal”/overstuffed/misery.

Why can’t I get this right?!?!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
