gabybab 696 Posted February 23, 2019 Monday is coming and I'm terrified. I'm so honestly scared. I almost canceled last week. The pre-op diet was brutal as a diabetic. So, they switched me to a low cal diabetic diet. Good luck everyone. I will let you know how I do. 1 2 EmzBee, BlueIGT and gerl86 reacted to this

Were you scared? Do you feel full?I'm also worried about taking pain medicine after surgery and getting sick. I'm on some pain medicine already due to several conditions and wondering how that will work? Worried my pain will be hard to manage. Dr said that could be a problem. Sorry to rant! 1 EmzBee reacted to this

Once you are in the hospital in pre-op, if they don't already, ask them to give you something in your IV to calm you down. It helps. Are you a Type 1 diabetic? I am, and want to drastically reduce the amount of insulin I have to take. Post surgery I am down to only 12 units of long-acting in the morning and at night (down from 40 units each time!). That. Is. Amazing. You can do this...many of us in this group were in the same fright stage as you (including me!) and we all made it through. You can too! 2 gabybab and EmzBee reacted to this

Worried my pain will be hard to manage. Dr said that could be a problem. Sorry to rant! Don't spend time worrying about the food aspect as you will not feel hunger for at least one week post-op and when you do, you will only need a little bit of full liquids to feel full. I found the pre-op diet a LOT harder than the post-op diet. As for pain medicine, I was sent home with liquid prescription pain killer. See what works in the hospital for you and ask for a prescription when you go home. The post-surgery pain is usually not unbearable so hopefully you won't need too much of it. Not sure about your other pain, though. The nurses will want to work with you on pain management during your stay so be sure to tell them what your pain needs are. 2 gerl86 and gabybab reacted to this

I just keep reminding myself that I am doing this for my health ( okay and the really cute clothes I have in storage that I want to fit). It helps me to read the posts of people who have just completed the surgery @Marine79 posted the same day if surgery. We have to believe in us. I will be looking for your post surgery posts. 1 2 gerl86, gabybab and EmzBee reacted to this

I think this will be fairly easy for you compared to what you've been through! I, too, want to ditch my CPAP and feel more energetic. Good luck with the pre-op diet. I hated it and had headaches all the way through for 10 days. Hope it goes better for you! I had laparoscopic cancer surgery in my abdomen in 2017, so I think I know what to expect. I stayed on pain pills (oxycodone) for three days, and then stopped on my own because they made me incredibly constipated. I don't remember the gas pains everyone is talking about here, so perhaps that will be a big difference with this surgery. My hospital has a pain management approach that I haven't heard anyone discuss. They put a slim tube into every incision that connect to a small ball that dispenses lidocaine on an ongoing basis (sort of like a drip irrigation system). We have this for up to a week and carry the ball in a small sling around the shoulder, then we take them out ourselves (AGH!). It sounds really odd, but they said it alleviates most of the severe pain without using narcotics. I let you all know how it goes! 1 EmzBee reacted to this

Will be nice to be able to get off most of it. I'm definitely asking for xanax or something like that. Will let you all know how I do. [emoji24] I seriously hope that I can kick it before Wednesday! Please send prayers and good vibes! Take lots of Vitamin C and stay hydrated. But if you are coughing a lot before surgery, let them know. I am on day 5 post-op and you definitely don't want to be coughing with your incisions. Good luck! Yesterday I started having symptoms of a cold! 😭 I seriously hope that I can kick it before Wednesday! Please send prayers and good vibes! Hi, Brooklyn Kay! I'm doing two weeks of liquids and am on day 6, with my surgery on March 4. And I also have a cold! I met with the anesthesiologist yesterday and told him about the cold, and he wasn't terribly worried. He said that they could go ahead with the surgery unless I had a severe cold with significant chest congestion on the day of surgery (which I don't have at the moment). Good luck to you and let us know how it turns out. 1 EmzBee reacted to this
Joe P 22 Posted February 23, 2019 Hi Brooklyn Kay, I am sharing the same surgery date as you. I haven't posted much but I am glad everyone is so helpful. Marine glad things are going better for you and I have been following all my February friends. I guess I'm the senior here at 69 years but I have found everyone's kindness in sharing all the downs and ups has been so helpful and I know what to possibly expect. Guess I'm the tall guy too, 6-5 and roughly 313. Hopeful to go down to 230. Wish me luck. 1 EmzBee reacted to this
