Sleeveless. Yes I am pretty pumped up. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning. I will be the first one in for surgery at 7:30

I also need to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. on March 4 and will be the first surgery of the day, which I kind of like.

Over here we spend 2 nights in hospital minimum for the RNY before we're allowed home.
First day post-op for me today and I'll be having a little puree for lunch and dinner. Have to drink 1.5L of Water today to be allowed home tomorrow.

My insurance company approved the surgery, and only one night in the hospital--although I hope they would approve more if there are complications and I need to stay longer.

Wow--now that's what I call dedication to this group! I'm not sure that my first thought in the recovery room would be to post here. 🙂

Scheduled for 2/19! For those of you who had surgery this month, how are you feeling now? I am supposed to chaperone a field trip 2 weeks after surgery and I want to make sure it's feasible for me to sit on a bus with 60 2nd graders for 2 hours. [emoji23]

Hooray!! So glad to hear from you EmzBee, and congratulations on doing so well. It's especially good that you were able to get through the first day with almost no morphine. I'm a bit curious about the acid, because I thought we weren't supposed to have reflux after RnY.
What are your issues with Water? Not getting enough water after surgery is one of my big fears.
The acid pill was just, I think, to settle stomach acid while I wasn't eating anything. Managed about 50ml or so of pureed chicken this evening, so they've taken me off the acid pill--whatever it was.

Yeah... water on that first day/evening was rough. I struggled through 500ml. Then I realised I was going to get really dehydrated if I didn't make a real effort because after the first bag of fluids that was it.

Today was easier. I've almost met my 1.5L water goal. Still takes me about 45mins to get three tablets down (and I start feeling sore in that last couple hours before my next panadol) but all in all I'm really surprised by how good everything's been =)

First up is definitely the way to go! Your surgical team's fresh, and you knock it out of the way early. I also found that having the daytime nursing staff around straight aftet was helpful as they're more likely to come and ask if you need anything than the night nurses.
One of my nurses reheated a heating pack for my gassy, swollen belly about three times.

Gosh I hope so, too... would they ever not cover that if you really needed it? The whole US insurance situation freaks me out. Lol.

I'm first day post op and I've been walking around fine. Even went outside to glimpse the racehorses over the road with hubby (in my nightgown, hehe!)
I expect if you built up slowly you'd be fine--a walk to the letterbox turns into 15mins, 20mins, etc. (At least, that was my physio's advice this morning).
Just so long as you don't have to carry any of the second graders and you're free of complications you'll be awesome =)

Everyone is different, a lot in this thread are up and going well which is great. I had mine on the 11th and I am struggling with pain, gas and other. Everything is a chore but I hope to see improvement in the coming week. I personally don't think I would be able to do the trip but I hope you have the results of the many here. Best wishes and a speedy recovery.

I've seen quite a few people who lost a lot of weight before surgery, like 20+ pounds. Did all of that happen during the two weeks of liquid, or were you already dieting before then. (As some of you know from my posts, I'm not dieting before liquids!)

Ive lost 70 lbs on a weight watchers since April of last year. I had to lose 10% of body weight by surgery i lost almost 20%.

That's awesome, tcowen! Remind me... have you had your surgery yet, or are you still in the waiting room?

Recidivist, you have to go at your own pace. Look after what's right for YOU. I know you might feel a little intimidated through comparing yourself to others, but as an idea--I'm 29. No health probs except mild asthma and eczema and mildly high cholesterol (not medicated). Pre-surgery I could walk 15K steps in a day without much trouble at all. I've never broken a bone, let alone had any surgery.
Comparison may well be the theif of your own joy in this process, my friend. Please look after you and do your best. I'll be rooting for you!!

Thought I'd post a vulnerable photo of my one day post-op battle scars. I'd lost quite a bit of weight before surgery, so my tummy was quite slack and floppy, but here it's a big, round, tight, uncomfortable gas ball.

Having some trouble with nausea this morning--all I can smell is the pureed chicken I ate last night! But got some nausea meds so hopefully that settles in a bit. Sending good thoughts your ways!IMG20190217030614.jpeg

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
