Hmmmm...this does seem odd. Might you be allergic to the surgical tape? When you say you have no restriction to drinking, do you mean the amount? Which surgery did you have?

Hi, I don't think I have an allergy to the tape - I am wondering if it's pulling on the stitches. I managed to find out a bit of info from other people who have experienced this too, though they describe it as feeling like a hot poker in the left hand side. It's definitely a burning feeling.

I went from a sleeve to a bypass.

The fluids restriction thing is odd as i would have thought I'd have some kind of restrictive feeling as I was drinking to the amount. I have zero. I have not tried it, but it feels as though I could chug a load of Water and it wouldn't affect me.

My experience is quite the opposite. I notice that when I drink Water that if I drink it too fast or too much, I feel full and uncomfortable.

So i had my surgery on Friday. I have had quite bit of pain. I'm getting 90ml of fluids in per meal. I get to go home today at some point.

I hope everyone here is doing well at the various stages of pre-op and post-op. In a few weeks we will all be on the other side and compare notes about how much gas we have! [emoji846]
I'm going out for a big steak dinner tonight before I start liquids tomorrow. When I was having my favorite foods over the last week, I kept thinking, "This is the last time I will ever eat this." It's getting very real!
How was your steak dinner? My "last meal" was great! Day 1 of pre-op is almost over for us! Hope it was easy for you. 13 more to go!

Hey all!

So, I'll definitely reply to other stuff soon but I've got myself into a bit of a situation...

I got 2 days 'till surgery and my back is freaking killing me. It started, I think, when I was lying funny in bed... and it's gotten worse over the past day or two.

I'm nervous because I've experienced back pain before (sciatic nerve pain is a... well, you get the idea) but this is entirely different. It's more to the side, middle of my back (so, like, shooting pains whenever I roll over and tenderness right under where my stomach is) and of course my catastrophising lil brain is like "probably not musculature--you got pancreitis, or whatever that thing's called when your pancreas craps out). I mean, I've been on Optifast for, like, a month, and the last week or so I've been really bad with the veges... either I won't eat them, or I'll eat them raw with soy sauce (no oil--which is supposed to help the pancreas).

I really don't wanna go into surgery with a bad back, because It's gonna really complicate the feelings in that area... I'm not going to know what's back pain, what's stomach pain, what I should worry about, what I shouldn't...

Gah!!!

Anyway. So I have a physio appointment in about 4 hours. Hopefully they magically fit me and I've done all this worrying for nothing.

Hi, EmzBee. I understand your wanting to go through with the surgery as scheduled, but I think you need to be completely honest with your medical team regarding any issues. Your doctor would know best whether this might make your surgery riskier or increase the chance of side effects.

My big fear is getting a cold just before surgery, because I'm told that they don't want to operate if you have a bad cold. Not sure why--perhaps something to do with the anesthesia?

My steak dinner was wonderful, and it included two glasses of wine, a "loaded" baked potato and chocolate mousse for dessert.

However, my surgeon's office called this morning and said they need to postpone my surgery for a week due to the doctor's schedule. Fortunately, I had only had two Protein Shakes by then and could eat a regular lunch.

I had my nutrition appt. today to discuss the first 2 weeks post op. One thing I didn't' know was they said to eat and drink sitting straight up vs reclining in the bed as it goes down easier. My surgery is next Monday. I am starting to freak out a little. I will have to go by myself since my husband has to get kids on the bus and I wont see him until I am out of recovery and back in my room. I am still having the what ifs in my head. Not just surgery issues but future complications etc. I think I will feel better a week form now when I have more control over my situation.

Hello February surgery buds!

Good news and bad news today. First, I found out that the insurance approved my surgery. Hooray!

Then I got a call from my doctor's office telling me that they need to postpone my surgery from February 25 to March 4 because of conflicts with the doctor's schedule. Boo! However, it's better that I learned halfway through day 1 of my liquid diet instead of just before surgery. I can now eat like a normal person for one more week.

If you all don't mind, I'd like to remain an honorary member of the February club and continue hearing about your progress--and updating you with mine. :-)

Agreed, Recidivist. =(

I'm hoping a physio can give me more information on what's going on... then I'll email my surgeon.

Fingers crossed it's just a pulled muscle or something. I feel like my 'proportions' have done a lot of shifting (why is it always the boobs are first to go?! Lol!) so maybe just my frame being unused to how to carry my weight...

Whatever it is, I'm very grumpy right now!

Hope your liquid's are going down okay, Recidivist =)

Does that mean you spent the entire weekend in the hospital? Sorry to hear that. Was there a reason they couldn't discharge you on Saturday?

Nooooo! Recidivist!

Well I hope you enjoy your second hooray to food =D And think... you'll be enjoying a last last steak when most of us are still eating baby food [emoji23]

My vote is to retain you as an honorary February member, for sure! Maybe now you can be a February baby, and a March wise old owl =D

I think we had three surgeries today: TwoCoulters, SisterWannaSleeve and Itssbrit. When you are feeling up to it, please let us know how things went and how you are doing.

Glad you enjoyed but sorry to hear the news of postponement [emoji30]. At least it was day 1 and not 13! Enjoy one more week!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
