Why would my restriction just go???

Recommended Posts

I have had good, and probaly a little to tight restriction since my last fill in July, and then wham bam...ZILCH nothing, not a thing.

I usually dont do toast with the band I have just sat here and had 2 slices of toast. Pasta is also out, but now fine.

I am somewhat scared because I need my band to lose weight.

Could it be that I have lost a lot of weight 70lbs, and its just suddenly gone slack??

BTW I have no pain, except the shoulder wind pain.

thanks

If I suddenly lost my restriction, and could not account for it in some way (e.g. was tight because of some swelling from a recent fill, but am now wide open), I would call my surgeon ASAP. Instantaneous loss of restriction is not SOP for the band, so you'll want his/her input.

Are you sure NOTHING NOT A THING is correct? Take a good look at this and think how 'nothing' feels, compared to restriction. To me, when my TOM comes and I loose restriction and 'feel nothing'...I'm full of it. It's just not as tight as I'm used to.

When properly banded, restriction can vary from day to day. Many are tight in the mornings, before their period, in higher elevations, after too much salt, etc. Even things like Constipation & tight clothing might affect the way your restriction feels. Calling your surgeon is indeed in order since you have an implant that needs professional supervision but whatever you do, don't test your Band by trying to shove stuff down! Your restriction might creep right back up on you when you least expect it.

you are probally right, yes I feel something its like when I was first banded and you eat a little too much and you get that aching port pain, I have that now after my toast. at my TOM i go tighter, I will email my surgeon tomorrow.

Have you lost a lot of weight? I read somewhere that as you lose weight you may need another fill to compensate. Just a thought.

I tend to lose my restriction with further weight loss all of a sudden like that. Like I wake up one day and suddenly need a fill. It really does vary a LOT as I lose more weight, like from barely being able to eat bread after the fill to eating it three months later.

So I wouldnt automatically assume there's anything wrong, especially with no pain or other symptoms, but I would check it out. Hopefully you just need another fill!

Yes, this is quite common when you lose weight. It is normal to have to go back in for fills. Sometimes it only takes 5-10 lbs before you need another fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
