Two and a Half Years Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

Just curious if there is anyone out there who is two years or more post surgery. I'm gaining and quite sure that I have stretched my tiny stomach. I need strategies to turn this around and refocus on my original goals! If you're out there...What is working for you???

It's a new year. This is a perfect time to recommit to your plan. A great place to start is joining the January 2019 weight loss challenge. Thanks @GreenTealael for creating it.

I had my first gain in my third year. I got complacent with my diet. (Extra calories, carbs and old habits) I went back to basics and worked back to my maintaining weight. Four years out and I have gained during the holidays. I am back in weight loss mode working it down. It's slow but I'll take it.

Funky_Monkey 800,

Thanks for the encouragement. You did great reaching your goal! In 2 1/2 years, I still have not met my goal. I came close and got discouraged when nothing happened! I had a plateau that lasted for months with lots of back and forth gains and losses. Complacency is the easy route...and it happened. Like you said...old habits crept in. Man, did I enjoy the holidays! I'm going to try to reduce the carbs again, make sure my Protein portions are reasonable, green stuff should take up the largest portion of my "small" plate, walk more, and go to the gym! I can do this. As you age, it really is a "do it or die" situation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
