Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Recommended Posts

Y'all,

I think I'm tired of nuts. Someone asked if they should pick up a bag for me because I'm running low and I said no thanks.

Now this just may be because of The Red Death, when I generally don't care about food again, as opposed to Hell Week, when I set a collision course for nut butters (dead ahead)

But

I lately I've been picking the nuts out of my granola mix that I made!

I may cry. Why? And why now?

@GreenTealael I think I'm sorry to hear this from you!! :( Please at least tell me you have no hormone positive cancer in your family and that you've been tested for the BRCA genes?

So yeah...we all know that the current Dr. V. is kinda on a whacked journey. But he still has kernels of real knowledge. For all you doing a "5-Day Pouch Reset" cuz you think your tool is stretched out...you might wanna watch!

No and not tested but I'm not jumping to that conclusion just yet. I'm thinking more along the lines of I ate far too many and now I'm just bored.

Anyone else becoming bored worth something they loved?

Sorry for shorthanding. What I was implying is...without nuts as a source of Protein, your soy consumption is going to go up. And as for my onc, he forbids his patients to eat phytoestrogens so that means the worst ones are: soy, flax, chia, hemp, Nigella seeds, lots of dairy. So if you have a history of hormone positive cancer in your family, it's best to stay away from eating things that contains these as much as possible. :( And for sure you should have to if you are BRCA positive.

So even though I can't cut out dairy completely, I try to keep it to a dull roar.

Got it!

I eat soy very irregularly, the others very regularly. But I have no reason to suspect the genetic mutation either. I'm just bored with nuts, which I didn't know would be possible. I'm actually bored with food in general but that may be cyclical.

Wondering if anyone else gets these feels...

Ok I get ya! ((hugs)) Hope you don't have the BRCA mutations...very prevalent in people of Ashkinazi descent... (Eastern European).

I am only wanting "easy button" solutions to eating. I too find myself falling back into yogurt, and green smoothies cuz they are easy, quick, and the way I make them--filling. I wouldn't say I'm bored with food. Cuz I still love great food! I'm just tired of making stuff. Make sense?

Totally understand!

Not of Ashkenazi descent, but it's not like that the mutation doesn't exist for other ethnic groups anyway.

I don't mind making things, even things I can't necessarily have, I just feel pretty meh when it comes to eating lately. Not thoroughly motivated by the foods I thought I'd love forever

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Anyone lose their appetite? Like sometimes I get hungry but never have a taste for anything. Anyone else become abnormally picky.

Just lazy for me. Plus trying to refocus my brain to think:

How much nutrition can I get into my body, for the least amount of food per meal? (ie How small a volume of the most densely nutritious and satisfying food can I get away with to take my hunger away for the longest amount of time?)

rather than...

How much food can I get into my body at 1 meal?

I haven’t really eaten today because I don’t have a taste for anything. Food literally goes bad in my fridge because I’m so picky.

23 and me reports on BRCA mutations now. If you’re down for signing over your genetic source code to some corporation, it can be interesting/informative.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
