Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

So who is super defensive, private and protective of their post surgery persona lol ?

Wouldn't think so, huh but in person it has not been confirmed by me that i had surgery although some may suspect...

So its not often i get to have open conversations about me. So quite a few people said i don't eat much and i totally was unwilling to acknowledge their observations because frankly they were generally negative. But having observations come from a objective party was... different.

A few things it made me consider was:

1. I don't eat much food by quantity (although in my mind i eat A LOT)

2. Maybe the WLS community obsesses like no other over food

3. I hate negative people (to the point where i throw away the baby with the bathwater- no bueno)

4. I like numbered instead of lettered lists

5. My perception about myself maybe totally skewed but in a vacuum who can know

Does anyone else:

A. Have an objective support system?

B. Think they eat too much although there is no evidence?

C. Randomly switch from numbered to lettered lists ?

D. Shut down information coming from negative sources?

E. Sometimes capitalize the letter "I" sometimes not?

Been MIA for awhile but wanted to jump in to say that I totally feel like I eat way more than I probably do! Everyone around me comments that I dont eat and I'm over here thinking that I'm overdoing it all the time. scale and nutritionist say otherwise though.

Well I’ve officially made it to my 6 month mark. I’m seeking some advice. I have been lingering between 200 and 203 for weeks. Though on the bright side, I’ve gone down a pants size during this epic stall. I know it’s just a number, but I’m so close to the 100’s and have been for SO LONG and I just really want to reach that goal. Has anyone had any success kicking their loss back into gear? Or do y’all think that’s just gimmicky and stay the course ? Would welcome pointers.

If you're still doing the same eating pattern after 6 months, I think your body may have adapted to your "new normal" and you might want to change things up a bit. If you're still getting a lot of your Protein from supplements, try shifting to more meats. Add a meal or two of just fruits/veggies. Change the timing of your meals. Add a little bit of exercise multiple times a day (for instance, every time I go to the ladies' room at work, I climb 3 flights of stairs. It only takes 2 minutes, but over the course of a day, I can get in 18 flights.) Good luck, Onederland is Onederful!

Thanks for the tips Orchids&Dragons. I was thinking of doing a one week shakeup anyway. Maybe doing a quick one week cycle through the post op stages. Protein Shakes. Then liquids. Then soft. Just to shake things up and wake my body up. It seems to currently be set to repetitive snooze. 🤔

Recently a colleague said that I don't seem to eat that much in general and I was like WTF???

I’ve been hovering at 154-155 now (lost 76👏🏻👏🏻)and I think it has to do w the candy I eat and not going to the gym as much as I should.
I have this huge fear deep down inside of failure. Will I get to my goal by 13 mos and maintain Like everyone knows I had the sleeve and then “what if” I fail as I have so many other times with “diets”.
Anyone have this fear inside of failure?
I know you can’t live “what iffing” your whole life but this is suppose to be a new beginning. I just don’t want to be five years down the road and the weight start creeping back.

A. Yes. I’ve told enough coworkers that they provide cover while not totally blowing my spot.

B. Only when I pay attention. If I am trying to “eat right” I eat too much, because I am both instinctively eating AND trying to meet some sort of hypothetical nutrition goal. When I stop paying attention but eat what I think I want (no, not always cookies... but sometimes!) then I end the day thinking I actually ate a somewhat balanced and rational amount.

My restriction’s still pretty darn good. Last night at an event I had a gin and tonic, then two hours later I ate a tiny slider, a spring roll, a pig in a blanket, and a dumpling. And then I was done. Previously in the day I’d had a small thing of yogurt, coffee, and...wait, I think that was it. So obviously by the event I was pretty hungry.

But on days when I’m paying too much attention to “eating right” I just end up stuffed by the end of the day. So I’ll be doing less of that.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
