Required Vitamins

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on 12/20/18. First month, required to take Vitamins in powder form. I just can't keep the powder form down. So chalky and disgusting! Threw it up today. Any suggestions on getting the required nutrients? Others that have had this surgery for a while, when can you take pill form?

Have you tried different powders/chewables? I really disliked most, but find that the Bariatric Advantage orange (they're chewable, not powder) are tolerable. They have several flavors and you can get a trial pack to see if any of the flavors work for you. I have to chew 4 of them a day, but so far it hasn't been too bad.

When I had to take some pills by just swallowing the insides, I'd put a bit of Water in my mouth, tilt my head back so it was in the back of my throat, and dump the pill innards in the water, then swallow. Most of the time I could do that without tasting the pill. But I didn't try that until I could swallow more than a sip of water.

Good luck.

Has anyone tried the vitamin patches? Just found those on this BariatricPal site. Seems that may be a great option!

Post-op, I had problems with chewable vitamins and powdered Vitamins mixed in water; caused nausea and vomiting. Most likely due to sugar alcohols in them. Solution: I waited until 4 weeks post-op then used a pill cutter for the larger vitamins until I could swallow them whole. No problems and my labs have been great.

No good scientific research showing vitamin patches are effective. My docs are against them, especially because once the deficiencies show up, it can be hard to get levels back to normal. You’re better off waiting 4 weeks until you can take normal Vitamins.

We have a Bari- pal that states they work wonderfully well for him, but I would not feel for myself they are trustworthy. At best YMYC, but I'm old enough to use the excuses. "We never did it that way before" and" If it sounds too good to be true, You're probably right"👈👼👉

Sorry - I was talking about Vitamins, not Protein. I don’t think there are protein pills. But not sure.

I've been using the Patches since my surgery in August and haven't had any issues. All my levels have been perfect at all my follow-up appointments.

Later on this week I plan on getting interveinous Vitamins. They last s month long from what I’m told. It’s a bit pricey but worth it since I’ve always had issues taking vitamins. I’ll be sure to provide an update to see how it all works out

Well my TPN pharmacist and dietician both say I don't need to take pill Vitamins since I have liquid ones instilled into my TPN but I still have been doing my prenatal and my Vitamins D and B12, so shoot me if I am wrong. Won't need a very good aim, I am still pretty wide!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
