How much Protein should you take in daily after surgery

Check with your doctor..if you are just out of surgery.. other than that it is 60-80g daily.

I was told to get 60 right out of surgery, then they upped it to 80g daily. I usually shoot for 100g though. Every plan is different though, so I would double check with your doctor or nutritionist. Good luck and Happy New Year!

I was told 60-80. Some days I struggle to get in 60, I am 7 weeks out, but it is getting easier.

It's definitely different for every surgical program. Generally, most surgeons say it's 60-80 because that is simpler than what the true recommendation is, which is about 1/2 of your goal or ideal weight. So since goal for women averages out to be around 120-160 (depending on lots of factors, but it's pretty much the typical range), that's where the 60-80g comes from.

My surgeon/ endoscopic person wanted me at 90-120 for ulcer healing, 1/2 9f my goal weight would be approximate a. little less than 90, wasn't getting it P.O. so I am on TPN, working it all out.
And how long this all goes, in the hands of the bariatric Gods, the Saints in Heaven, my doctors, my body's reactions. This is. a story📖 still being written📝, a lot of plot twists and I have no clue how it all resolves.💻

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
