Disney anyone?

Hi. My family are big Disney nuts. We've taken 2 trips to Orlando since 2004. Each time we have said "This will be our last trip." Anyway, we are planning another trip next November. I just had lap-band surgery (Nov. 5th) and am hoping to be 80-100 lbs thinner by then. (That's my goal)

Here's my question... Has anyone gone to Disney after lap-band surgery? We've always gotten the dining plan which includes a snack, counter service meal, and table service meal per day per person. Best part of last 2 trips was planning where and what to eat!!!:hungry: We've shared meals,so that won't be the issue, I guess I wonder if it will be a waste or if I should just plan to share with everyone.?

Anyone else Disney nuts?

Hi there,

I am also a big time Disney nut! We go to WDW every year. I am going to be banded in February and we booked our next trip planned for Sept 27-Oct 3. We booked the bounceback when we were there last Sept for free dining. I am also curious to read about people that have been there after banding and seeing how they did with everything. The only think that sucks about the dining plan is that you can't share food so a lot of ours will go to waste.

I am more worried about the rides than the food! I love all their thrill rides and don't want that to effect my band.

I have only been one time( loved it) and would love to go back and take the grand kids. Who do you plan your trips through and are they very pricey?

We usually book through Disney. You can get some pretty good deals through them. There is a site out there for Disney Freaks and the people on there really know what they are talking about. They post when whenever Disney's having a deal too! Here's the site: Disney World - The Largest Unofficial On-Line Guide to Disney World, Walt Disney World

Our trip in 08' we are staying on Disney property at a value resort and getting the Disney Dining Plan for FREE! We originally heard about it from the website above!

I was banded on 8/27/07 and we spent a week in Disney 10/21-10/27/07.

It was an amazing vacation!!! Everything worked out perfectly. We stayed off site in a townhouse at Windsor Hills. 3br + 3ba, full kitchen, each room had a tv/dvd and the kid’s rooms had a PS2. We even had our own little 10 x 10 "splash pool" but spend most of our pool time in the big resort pool and hot tub. I would stay there again in a heart beat. It was cheaper than most hotels and worked out better space wise for 3 adults and 1 child.

Our favorite parks were Universal Studios/IA and Animal Kingdom.

Eating wasn't a big issue for me because I ate Breakfast and a few dinners at the townhouse. I brought Snacks with me to the parks (protein bars, fruit, etc) and that got me through lunches.

Have fun guys! Our next vacation is Vegas in 3 weeks!! I can't wait!!!

I had a 7 week holiday in the USA/Mexico last year and we went to DW in Orlando... loved it. I didn't go on the big rides because of my BP but if I had the chance again I would go for it. I'm from Australia so I unfortunately have no plans to travel back to the USA at this stage. I must say it will be hard to eat healthy food there. I guess if you eat half of your meal and with all the walking you have to do, you should be able to at least maintain your weight. Good luck and have fun!! :whoo::whoo:

i love disney world! i've been 4 times and can't wait to get back. right now we're planning on going down next november or december. i should be banded by then and am hoping to be able to jog around the EPCOT jogging trail (think that's what it's called) that goes around the EPCOT resorts. quite ambitious of me, i know.

what's everyone's favorite wdw memory? mine would have to be when i was 4 and my brother was 11 months. we were waiting to go into a character Breakfast and he started crying. suddenly eeyore appeared and tried to cheer him up by dancing around and stuff. when that didn't work he took a bottle out of the diaper bag and fed my brother. eeyore kneeled on the ground holding the bottle for him and rubbing his head. tigger came over too and the two of them played with my brother, tickling him and hopping around while he had his bottle. we've got it on video and it's one of the nicest, cutest things i've ever seen.;-)

i was banded 10/2006 and went to disney 06/2007, i had no issues with my band and the rides

we had a great time.

in fact, we are going back May 2008 for me to run the Minnie Marathon.

not sure about the meal plans, DH, DD & I just bought food when we got hungry, yeah, was kind of pricey, but i read that you cant share food, that would be an incredible waste.

good luck and have fun!

Glad to see there are other Disney freaks among us! For those wondering about costs and planning... we always book through AAA We get some discount maybe 10%, but better than nothing. The above website is great. Also check out DISboards. I think it is best to plan ahead before you get there so you can avoid the crowds and ride as much as you can. For me the planning is as much fun as the trip! We can't wait to go back. Even if I can't eat as much most of the restaurants are fun and entertaining.

My favorite Disney memory... Epcot is our favorite park. On our first family trip It started to rain right after illuminations (fireworks) Instead of racing with the crowds to the exit we walked the long way around the world showcase. It was so much fun playing in the rain and seeing the park close down. We felt like we had the whole park to ourselves. The girls had fun in each country and we could take pictures with nobody else in them. By the time we got to the front of the park there were only a few other people around. We got on an empty bus and headed back to our resort. I love it when it rains!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
