Different kind of dumping syndrome?

Recommended Posts

I have been ill almost constantly since my surgery on the 10th. At first I didn't pass gas for four days. I was concerned but after being able to have a bm, my body decided that it would only tolerate any type of food on one of two conditions. I either have an upset, angry stomach or I'm in the bathroom shortly after consuming anything.

Has anyone heard of this? Is it a normal side effect from the surgery?

Down 35 pounds since surgery though

Hi there

Your details alongside your post say surgery was 2 May - you had more? Can you update your profile - might help people to give informed responses!

I am one year post surgery. I am in the bathroom 2 or 3 times after my first meal of the day (coffee Protein slushie!) and then my bm are over for the day. But it took maybe 6 months to get that regular. I unpredictably mixed up diarrhoea and Constipation for the first few! But it seems my body fought to find a new routine...

I'm sorry about that. My original surgery date was supposed to be May 2nd. I was rescheduled a half dozen times before I finally had gastric sleeve on December 10th 2018

You're still early on in the healing process, there isn't a normal for your body yet. I would probably talk to your surgeon about it to see if they have any recommendations or insights.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
