Totally Zone Out

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever been so zoned out before surgery that they don't remember a thing?

When they got ready to take me down to surgery I was given an injection of what ever and don't remember being wheeled in surgery, getting on the table. I barely remember someone saying this is only oxygen and that was totally it. I don't remember recovery (my husband said I was in there for 2 hours), I don't remember leaving and taken to my room. I barely remember someone asking me if I thought I could walk to my bed (gurney could not be taken in the room). I barely remember stumbling (I had a lot of help) to the bed, don't remember getting into bed.

You remember way more than I do, but I'm ok with that. I probably don't need to know if I treated them all to my favorite rendition of some FloRida song!

FloRida, what an interesting choice of 🎶 music. Now you all have me wondering if anyone ever sang in the OR? Waiting anxiously to hear more!

I thought I wasn't going to remember anything, but my body didn't react as quickly to the "calming" medication as the team thought.

Not to hijack this post, but I was also wondering if there were other people that remembered nearly EVERYTHING.

I remember being wheeled into the OR and pretty amazed on how it looked "behind the scenes." Very gray! I remember the actual room being a lot smaller than I thought and there were already people in there. They had me move from the gurney I was on to the actual table and then I was chatting with the nurse anesthetist that had visited me before. I don't remember the conversation, but she told me I was going to be closing my eyes in a second and next thing I know - I woke up in Recovery.

Recovery was A W F U L. I had been laying on my back for awhile and the pain was worse than anything else. I remember it took them FOREVER to get my room ready (it felt like forever) and I also recall the trip up to my room when it was ready (and my husband was waiting for me.)

I remember everything. Rolling down the hall to the OR. Being amazed at the Schmitt ton of tools. Getting scootched ont to or table. It smelled like chicken in there, which I thought was hilarious. 2 of the kindest OR nurses who kept calming hands on me the entire time, patting my leg, smoothing my face. Anesthesiologist opened the IV, O2 mask placed and mighty night!!!!

I think I told my story already on another thread, I remember the trip, the OR, the nice staff which my surgeon had introduced earlier, What I DON'T remember was recovery, if I was ever there. I woke up in the warm sunlight in my room. No pain, no sorrow, wasn't even sure they had even done surgery, I felt super duper fine.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
