Joyce McNeill 0 Posted January 1, 2019 I just had surgery on December 28, 2018. I was told 2 weeks of Protein Shakes, followed by two weeks of pureed food, then two weeks of soft food. After that, I can have regular food. I'm having a difficult time trying to get in enough Protein and Water daily. I can only take baby sips at a time or I feel uncomfortable. Has anyone had this feeling?
bratcad 12 Posted January 2, 2019 It really has been eye-opening (and, at times, frustrating) to see the variations in plans. I had a two-week liquid pre-op diet. After surgery, my plan was two weeks of Clear Liquids, followed by two weeks of full liquids. Then two weeks of blended/soft foods followed by introducing "new" foods until goal is met. Technically I am to start stage 3, blended/soft foods tomorrow. However, I have been experimenting with various soft foods in the last few days. I go back to work (I'm a teacher) Friday, and I wanted to make sure I knew what to expect eating actual food (and hopefully not get sick at school). 2 Swanton_Bomb and Chuck Clasik reacted to this

Yes, if I drink to fast or to big of a drink I feel like I have big bubble in my stomach and it goes into my back. Just slow down and take your time. I have only gotten to bottles of Water in so far and have only gotten all my Protein in once. Still haven't gotten all of my Fiber in. I am 3 weeks out today. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

I was the same way at the same point. Now I’m drinking liquids normally. Make sure you walk as much as you can. It helps nearly everything. Good luck. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Now on Wednesday I can start softies until 10 weeks at which point I can go for it! I was going to say my plan is exactly the same & then I realized your profile says harrisburg, did you do surgery at Hershey? That’s where I had mine done! 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
sisternewt@yahoo.com 102 Posted January 2, 2019 My doctor has me on liquids for two weeks post surgery, then puréed food for 3 more weeks, then soft food for three more weeks then FINALLY, slowly starting regular food. Today was day 6 post surgery. I’m having zero issues! Feel great! I’ve lost 10 lbs since surgery, 16 since my last weigh in one week before surgery. Yay me! 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

I figured there would be more standardization in this. Definitely no standards at all. In the end you'll have to find out what works best long term for you. 1 Healthy_life reacted to this
Swanton_Bomb 522 Posted January 6, 2019 The differences between plans are extreme, and I have even found conflicting info within the plan my NUT gave me! That's why I find it so interesting that some people follow their surgeon's plan as if it were the word of God...and yet, if you had gone to a different surgeon, your plan might be completely different. The biggest difference I have seen is caffeine. Few allow it from the beginning, others introduce it at 1, 3 or 6 months, others ban it for life. I was cleared at one month, and I was happy that my surgeon was not particularly conservative about coffee, but I quickly discovered that it didn't agree with me and that I wasn't ready. Same with Vitamin pills.

My surgeon cleared me for caffeine after week 2!! It’s crazy.
