Weight loss stopped after 5 weeks?

Recommended Posts

I'm really worried that I went through all of this for nothing. I had surgery at the end of Nov., had a nice weight loss of about 25 lbs and now it has stopped. Nothing for weeks. I eat so little, cottage cheese and fruit for Breakfast, veggies for lunch, fish for dinner-this is very discouraging.

Have you ever lost 25 pounds in 1 month before? You're doing great. This is just a stall as your body adjusts. Track your measurements in addition to your weight. Often you lose inches even when the scale isn't moving. It helps to keep you from getting discouraged at times when the scale is being a b!tch.

Search for stalls in the forums and you'll see that this is a very common occurrence. Just hang in there!

I had my surgery Oct 25,2018. I have had a TON of stalls. It can be so discouraging at time however I just keep focusing on the end game ya know. I've asked the same question you asked, have I done this for nothing???? But then I'll loose 7llbs and I'm like o wow....ok. So. Just keep pushing love you got this. Everyone's body is different and responds to all of this differently! Also....25lbs in a month?!? Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! :780_sparkling_heart:

At least you all can still eat, I can't and temporarily on TPN. What will the New Years bring? Open surgery, a J-Tube, ulcer resolution, stricture stretching so solids will start to pass through? I'm sure my Bariatric Surgeon and his partner have a plan of Care, perhaps on the 15th they shall share it with me? I have been on a form of this full liquid diet since the 1st of August, a difference was before my RnY I could have a Lean Cuisine for dinner, now not even that so 20- some weeks. It does make one doubt the wisdom of it all. But 60+ pounds down, that I still can celebrate! A problem- I was over 300 pounds at surgery, well high weight was 365. So although I am now mid 200s I'm still a pretty big variety of girl. Ever though I was teetering on malnourishment it was not visible to the outside world. Feeling more like me with the TPN, but I didn't sign an elective surgery consent to live on plumbing the rest of my days. One doctor, not my surgeon, but in my medical stable mentioned a J Tube, not keen on a tube coming out of my abdomen, rather have a PICC with its inherent sepsis risk, but I will do what I must to heal and be strong.

i am just over 7 weeks out. Your weight loss is great, but check with your doctor on your plan. I still cant have fruits and can only have a few soft canned veggies just now at 7 weeks.. I never get to the veggies because we are supposed to be eating Protein first and then if hungry veggies and then carbs... try tracking your carbs also and make sure that your calorie intake is half protein, 1/4 carb, 1/4 fat... i barely ever get to the carb part, fat i am going to venture a guess is in with protein since its no carbs LOL

All of you make such good points. I am grateful that I'm not dealing with the complications listed above. I'm so sorry Frustr8 is going through such a terrible time. I was not given directions from the Dr. regarding carbs last and Protein first but that is a good suggestion. I do try to eat the veggies and protein often but the Proteins are so limited at this point. Jazzy you are doing great! Andrea-you are so sweet. Thank you all for responding.

Thank you BarbaraH, it's just a matter of time until they find the thing that helps cure me. Life may have tried to break my wings, that's okay for I have claws, I'll hold on with them until the answer comes.

We had surgery near the same time. I'm only 14lbs down at 6 weeks out. So you're doing amazing. Every time I second guess myself, I remind myself to trust the process. This tool works and everyone loses weight differently.

You've got this.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Looking forward to a healthier 2019. I'm grateful to be on only 2 of the 4 blood pressure meds.that I took prior to surgery. That was a gift in itself!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
