I would appreciate it if any of you can answer the following:

1) How many oz of Water can you drink in 1 setting

2) How much were you able to drink before the sleeve?

3) How far out are you since surgery?

I ask these things because I genuinely love to drink water and just want to have an estimate on the amount I will be able to drink after surgery.

THank You! :)

I am pre-surgery, so I can't answer #3 for you, but as for the others.. I admittedly *hate* Water. I don't know why, maybe it's the taste or something, but I just can't stand it. That said, I am trying very hard to drink more especially knowing I have to be sipping it often post-surgery.

As to the questions,

1. In one sitting, about a cup's worth is about all I can drink before my body is screaming to stop, lol.

2. See #1, though I have drank more only when I had to (like if I needed to give a urine sample or something like that.) Prior to getting ready for the surgery, I mostly took in liquids from milk, juice, or diet soda, but now it's mostly water.

Presurgery I was alway able to hit my 64oz and then some. (especially after I started my liquid diet I was always thirsty) I could probably chug an entire 8oz of water in one sitting presurgery if I tried.

I'm 8 day post op and right now I can only seem to get 16oz of water in a day which isn't great at all. I've messed with some different flavoring options to see if a flavored water might make me drink more and it seems Powerade zero does the trick. I had about 30oz yesterday.

The first week or two are tough to drink much because of the swelling in your stomach. Some lucky people don't swell much and can drink pretty much normally within a couple of days. For others, they need to continue the slow, measured sips because the Water needs to trickle down between the swollen areas. No one can predict how you, personally, will do. I was able to drink normally in less than a week. Water will not stretch your pouch, so after the doc says it's ok, drink normally unless you experience pain. By the time I was 2 weeks post-op, I was drinking 80-100 oz./day. Now I'm 130-170 oz. per day, not because I have to, but because I like to drink a lot. Hope this helps to ease your worries.

I am 1 month out. It took me about 30 minutes to finish about 8-12 oz. right after surgery. That's why they say sip all day long. I don't try to drink a lot in one setting ever. It leaves your stomach pretty quick, so just try to carry a bottle with you everywhere. Listen to how your stomach feels, stop BEFORE you feel full. My doc want 40-48 oz. a day. I just spread it out.

I'm almost 2 months out. Before the sleeve, I routinely drank over 100oz of liquids (mostly water). Right after surgery, it was tough - I drank an ounce or so every 15-20 mn. By end of the 1st week, I was getting in at least 64oz of liquids (note - all liquids, not just Water, so that counted my Protein drinks). But I did have to pretty intentionally drink liquids all day in small sips.

I'm not really sure how to answer how much I can drink in one sitting. I basically sip all day (except 30 mn before/after I eat). I can easily swallow a mouthful of water, but once when I was working out I tried to do a couple gulps in a row out of my bottle and that was a mistake. I fairly easily get in 70-80oz of liquids without really trying now - mostly water, but sometimes herbal tea and one protein shake/day.

Pre surgery I was drinking close to 2 gallons a day. I’m 18 days post op and can now get in around 80-128 oz a day. But the first week after surgery I had to sip sip sip. The second week got better, and here I am in my third week and I can easily drink a cup of Water on down. Take your time. And follow your plan. You’ll be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
