Pantry/Fridge/Freezer Purge - Does everyone do it?

Recommended Posts

So I'm almost done with the Purge. Got rid of almost everything in the pantry, fridge and freezer (donated to the local bread pantry and friends) except that which I will continue to be on for the remainder of my pre-surg liquid diet and what I will be on post-op.

I left microwave popcorn - although my gut told me not to...LOL. But my husband asked pretty please. I just requested that he NOT make it while I am at home and not pre-surgery. I don't think I can take the smell. It's too tempting!! 🤣

I also left what my husband will be eating. Basic staples, etc.

Did all of this while I ate my sugar free popsicle - which btw was pretty tasty.

I'm on the pre-op diet and literally just sat down from cleaning out the fridge and pantry! You also reminded me that I forgot to get popsicles at the store 🤦‍♀️

Get them when you can. I would say that I was in a moment of ARRRRRRGH and it was the popsicle that saved me...LOL. SAVED me.

I was hoping to have one after dinner tonight and now I'm going to have to settle with some Crystal Light. I'm making a trip to the store just for them tomorrow 😂

I gave away all of my no-no foods right before surgery. Leaving me with just Protein Shakes, essentially. LOL. I had to go to the grocery store a week out to do the fill-in. My house is 100% bariatric friendly. I live alone, fortunately.

I have 2 teenage boys and I only WISH I could have purged all the bad stuff!! I will say though - at 11 weeks post op the only “cheat” I had was 6 Scoops. Any they were worth it - lol!

I put all the food I can have right now for my pre-op diet in a separate cabinet. That way, I don't have to look at all of the food I can't eat. Doesn't stop me from seeing the frozen burritos and pizza in the freezer, but it helps a little 🙂

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
