left pain after eatting after lapband removal surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band removed 12 days ago. I'm getting horrible pain after eatting on my left side. I also still have horrible gas pains and bloating. Does anyone else have this? and also how long before the stomach goes back to normal after surgery?

Maybe you have adhesions where the lap-band sat so long. It has happened before.

This is quite common! I doubt it's gas. Did you have left shoulder pain prior to surgery as well? The lap-band causes issues and exacerbates the area around the vagus nerve, which in turn causes left shoulder pain. The paid should hopefully subside within time. It was excruciating for me for a few weeks after my own lap and removal but has completely disappeared since.

I had my band removed and had to wait 3 months to get the sleeve. After band removal I had horrible bloating and reflux, which I did not have with the band. When my dr did the sleeve last week she found that she had left a part of my stomach stitched, which created a pocket and trapped food inside. So glad she found it when doing my sleeve

Or if it hurts where your port is, it could be that that area is still tender. After I ate, my stomach would press on the area where the port was removed, and that hurt for a little bit

I have a lot of swelling in my legs and belly after lap band removal (last week). I assume it’s normal after surgery. I’m trying to drink a lot of fluids to flush my system.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
