Choices of liquids

Recommended Posts

I'm have a time with the choices of Soups that will help me through my 2 weeks PO sleeve. I have been drinking low sodium chicken broth, no sugar popsicles and Jello, Gatorade, Water, and Protein Shakes. I was wondering if I added Tomato Soup, in there to give myself a different choice, would it be wise? Another thing how do you take down the 64 ozs without feeling too full. #POSLEEVEDAY5 #DOWN9LBS

Funny I was thinking the same thing . There is a bariatric Tomato Soup you can make from scratch or maybe a heart healthy Tomato Soup would be ok ?

it depends on your surgeon. I was able to do Tomato Soup on my liquid phase. I had to strain it to make sure it was really smooth. If it had any chunks, I would put it in the blender, then strain it. Just check the sugar content. I believe the limit my team out on me was 5g/serving. I got some from Trader Joes that was delicious.

Yeah I know of a RnY- er who dumped badly on Campbell's Tomato Soup. It does. above the limit carbs, glad Trader Joe's didn't. Wish we had a Trader Joe's in my area of Ohio!

Is a serving 1 cup or a half cup? If its a full cup, you'll likely only eat 1/4-1/2 cup, so that would be less sugars. Do you have some canned tomatoes? Maybe put the Soup in a blender with some extra tomatoes and some Water or broth and blend it well, then strain it. That'll mean less sugar per serving, too. Or just water it down a bit.

Or here's a good Tomato Soup recipe. I wouldn't get too stuck on the type of tomatoes or basil. You could use any canned tomatoes and dried basil. Maybe a little less butter this soon after surgery. You might even just make a half serving and freeze some for later.

And another, just don't use the crunchies

And, if you want, try some unflavored Protein Powder (note, it will change the flavor a bit).

Good luck!

Yup I was thinking I will make my own ! I also got cream of chicken Soup , it only has 9 carbs and 1 sugar per serving so that may be better overall .

Check your doc's instructions - every doc has different post-op foods allowed. If it says you can eat strained Soups, then the Tomato soups posted above should be OK (really well blended and strained, minus the crunchies).

I find that diluting my Protein Shakes works a whole LOT BETTER!! I brought the cheddar broccoli Soup and added Water, but Ion think I'm ready for that one just yet, so I will hold off on that one, but I did get Campbell's creamy Tomato Soup that I will blend and dilute with water 1st and try that today. So I can have less sugars.

8 days PO... Tomato Soup is awesome but not according to my new gut. I can't keep it in. Everyone is different. Just try them all until you find what works.

Where does the Fluid go? Pretty much straight through, be you sleeve or Bypass, except for me with Precious Pouch and her pinhole drain out. And if you are up for 8 hours, drinking a 8 oz☕ glass. per hour or 2 oz every 15 minutes, by the time you get completed--' you will have been putting out pale lemonade colored urine. And woe be you if you finish up late in the evening, because you will be up all night, running back and forth. And that is just how,it happens!💦🚽

This is what I want to know. The first two days I could only get 8oz in of fluids now I get around 30 or so and I just feel full all day. I'm 6 days post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
