I want to put my experience out there as I had a hard time finding any recent conversations about low BMI sleevers. I hope that my thread can help people like myself that was looking for information pre and post op. I was self paid with surgery in early November.
I am 5’3. I started with a BMI of 32. I had high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and joint pain.

1st doc visit weight- 182

SW- 170
measurements: under bust 36, waist 38, thigh 23, arm 12

Week 1- 157
Measurements: ub 33, w 36, t 22, a 11

Week 2- 155
Measurements: ub 32.5, w 36, t 22, a 11

Week 3- 150
Measurements: ub 32, w 35, t 20, a 11

Week 4- 149
Measurements ub 33, w 34, t 19, a 11

Week 5- 146
Measurements ub 32.5, w 34, t 19, a 10

After surgery I overall feel pretty good. My joints don’t hurt as much as they did before and I sleep better. I do have a hard time getting my recommended Water intake as well as my Protein. That is a work in progress. I do not work out yet, as I don’t feel completely healed nor have I been released to. I go back to the doc in early January.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Some insurance companies approve low BMI with comorbidities. Glad you found a self pay route. Congrats on your weight loss.

I was a 34 BMI and lost 50lbs in under 3 months . I followed surgeon instructions , kept calories , sugar and carbs low and drank a lot of Water and exercised regularly , both walking , weights and spin . Weight came off very quickly

I was very similar to Lolo.
50 lbs in 4 months. I have not started to work out. Just walking so far. I wouldn’t say I have loose skin as it doesn’t hang down while I am standing up but it does hang while in a plank position. Mainly boobs and stomach. Doc assured me that it will tighten up to a point over the next year.

Hi Nadia, Saw your stats and I’m exactly where you were at with 32 BMI and 182 when you started. I’m waiting on insurance approval, my nurse advocate says it should come in 2-4 wks. I Just wanted to say your doing great! Hope you reach your goal weight.

My insurance approved and I had my reversal done on 12/31. Right now managing my pain with what the doctors prescribed and looking forward to see how my body will change in the next few weeks.

What do you mean reversal? I was low BMI and have lost very little weight to be honest. Some of it could be that I enjoy wine, but I am definitely not eating calories like I was. I feel like it was a waste of money to be honest.

I was banded in 2016 at that time I was about 220 pds and started having issues even with air all let out in 12/2018. Insurance had approved to remove band however I did want to wait and make sure that’s what I wanted. Over this past summer is when I decided to have my band removed and switched to the sleeve. My doctor wrote a letter of necessity to my insurance and it was approved. My lowest with band was 165 and at my surgery date on 12/31/2019 I was 183. I’m currently diabetic but off meds as instructed by my doctor. I’ve heard sometimes the surgery doesn’t work for everybody. . I also love wine but I do plan on doing everything by the book and cutting most of the carbs out. I had tried Keto but I think I gained weight instead of losing and I also ended up with my cholesterol a little high. Hope you find something that works for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
