Please help me, I have terrible regret RNY

Recommended Posts

So perhaps I misunderstood, but you have not had any complications correct? It sounds as if you are waiting for the ball to drop, for something to go horribly wrong? Have you thought to yourself that maybe, just maybe, you made the right decision? As someone that suffers from anxiety, I feel like I have been in your shoes and I know how debilitating it can be. Time will only prove what you might already know, but are too scared to admit. Maybe the bypass will be the best gift you could have ever given yourself. Six months down the road, when you are healthy and feeling better, I look forward to an update.

I will be honest with you guys. I still regret my surgery and I know I will for the rest of my life.

I have empathy for your regret and I hope you find a therapist/psychologist/social worker who specializes in weight related issues to talk to. But neither of us knows how you will feel for the rest of your life! Forgive yourself and move forward. (hugs)

Ruth, what you are feeling is completely normal. I felt the same way. I thought the rest of my life would be miserable. The first few weeks I regretted it horribly. Almost 2 years out I feel like a new person. I'm down 120 pounds, a size 12 from a 26. I'm off of close to 10 medications. The last time I saw my primary care physician he stated I was cured. I wish I would have done it years ago. I enjoy life so much more. Things will get better.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
