Ensure and Boost are normally forbidden for us because of the carbs and sugar, but the new Ensure Max has 30 grams of Protein and only 1 gram of sugar. The flavors are limited, only chocolate and mocha, but I have tried the mocha and it is more palatable than a lot of other shakes I have tried. It does contain caffeine, so depending on your plan you might not be able to have that one. It is a little thinner and has less of an aftertaste to me than the other shakes, and I like that I don't have to order it online because they have it in the pharmacy. I have really struggled with protein, the shakes make me gag, so this has been a godsend. I don't like it, but I can handle it a lot better than the others I have tried (omg, Atkins tastes like sour milk and saccharine). I add a tiny bit of bitter unsweetened cocoa powder to further temper the sweetness. If you are struggling with shakes, maybe give this one a try. It also is low fat, so it only has 150 calories, which is really good for that much protein. Incidentally, I noticed that it has Calcium caseinate along with milk protein concentrate (a no-no for some surgeons but not mine), and I noticed that my Bariatric hot cocoa, which is also thin and palatable, has calcium caseinate as well. I have found casein protein, but I have heard it is thick and awful, but I can't find calcium caseinate as a powder, only as an ingredient in other products. If you hate thick drinks, you might like drinks with calcium caseinate as a main ingredient.

I agree. I thought it was pretty good, relatively speaking. It is more expensive, though.

So does it have that nasty evaporated milk taste to it? Many RTD do, you know.🍶

I never tasted evaporated milk but this was less nasty than Premier, Atkins or Muscle Milk, IMO.

I have 2 cases of Premier left. I am at the point i drink them if i am on the go. I have started using pure protein.. 100% whey and making my own shakes. They are lighter, less sweet and more of a liquid than premier. I have a slew of Torani syrups and i just add a flavor i want for the day.. Changes every day !

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
