I Believe It Was Worth It

Recommended Posts

You can see it floating around, and it may just be stress of the season, influx of new accounts or the contagion that fear breeds.

Negativity.

Everyone seems constantly afraid of something and it becomes attached to surgery/weightloss because that's what this forums is for.

General fear of failure, anticipation of regain, denial of insurance, surgeon error, marital status, auxiliary medical issues, etc...

Did anyone really believe this was a great pathdecision, choice, etc from the start and is still standing by it? Can we share some (realistic) positivity for people who need to know it's totally worth it?

Yes.

I knew this was the right decision for me. I have been heavy or obese my whole life. I remember being 11 or 12 the first time I joined Weight Watchers. I have struggled my whole adult life to lose and regain the same 30 pounds over and over again.

When I changed jobs and realized I had the chance to have surgery I researched all my options and began preparing.

I have zero regrets. Now it’s true I have had no complications, but I went into surgery realizing there was a risk that is was possible, a small risk, but a risk. And I was so miserable with my life the way I was living it that I accepted that risk.

My life has changed in so many positive ways. I have more energy and stamina. I’m not constantly worrying about what I’m going to eat. I’m not worrying about what I’m going to wear, I’m choosing what to wear based on my likes and tastes. How people interact with me is different, I feel like people used to just look past me. I was in so much pain after my long shifts at work at my high weight....I used to drive home sometimes and just cry in my car. Now I can work and yes, my feet may ache a bit, but it is absolutely nothing like before.

I have about 8-9 pounds to reach my first goal weight of 199. My surgeon thinks I could reach 180. Even if I don’t lose one more pound, I consider myself a success. I have lost over 175 pounds and over 25 points off of my BMI.

I also agree there has been a lot of negative posts. If you are close to your surgery date I encourage you to stay away from them. I cruised Instagram before my surgery and was amazed at all the before and after photos of people just like me.

Well I lost all my excess weight and more with my band. Kept it off easily for the first 6 years before regaining. Now I’m excited about my revision in Jan. Yes I am a little bit nervous and not looking forward to dumping but I know the benefits outweigh the negatives. I can’t wait to fit back into some of the clothes I have sitting in my wardrobe - yes there will be shopping done too but I already have heaps of cute stuff.

This journey is like most others. The ride isn’t always as smooth as we hope but when we reach the destination it’s so worth it.

Best decision ever made and allowed me to make changes to live healthier. It was a year yesterday and I am eternally grateful to have made the decision and continue to follow what I need to

My regret is that I didn’t have gastric bypass sooner! I’ve lost 90lbs. My diabetes is gone. I feel so much healthier. I’m a normal BMI!! Yes it was a longer than anticipated recovery but so so worth it!!

This a million times! ^^^^^^

I heart all of yas!

Yes, for me my only regret from this was that I didn't do it sooner...like YEARS sooner! I'm off 7 drugs!!! My high BP is in remission, so is my insulin resistance, so is my asthma, so is my BC. My average daily pain level has gone from an 8 to a 3-4. I sleep longer than 1-2 hour stretches (can now sleep 4 hours at a time). So much better!!!

I was chair bound (slept in a recliner). And couldn't stand longer than 5-10 minutes and could barely walk to the "terlet" or shower. I was so isolated and it was such a taxing thing for Mr. F.

Now I can do SO much more. I can take care of myself and my body, clean, make dinner, shop, meet with friends and am taking business meetings again. I walk 1 hour per day (sometimes more). I feel like I have a life again. The last time I weighed what I do, I was in high school.

I regret nothing other than whining so much about fear of not being covered by insurance. (Heck I don't even regret being such an obsessive ninnymuggins...

I believe this was a great decision. I'm looking forward to the transition of living the healthiest life I can live. Positive thoughts lead to positive results.

I absolutely without a doubt never thought I was going to fail.

I believe in the idea of self-fulfilling prophecy. I believe you can shape your life with the thoughts you focus mostly towards.

I believe when I am on mostly a positive goal oriented path, I open myself to the possibilities that will get me to those goals and unfortunately vice versa.

I will not fail myself ever again. Instead, I will rework, revise, rest, refocus, regroup, reaccess and return to the path, moving foward towards whatever goals I set. My hope is for everyone to have a similar belief in their (anticipated) success!!!

Best. Thing. Ever. Bloimin' hard work but boy is the payoff worth it. Everyone around me is commenting positively and I love catching sight of myself in windows etc.
Mostly I just love being free of the obsessive drive to eat (crap) food all the time. Its such a mental relief as well as physical one.

Question. I had the sleeve on Monday. I have been hungry every second since. I have been 100% faithful in staying on liquids only and will not do anything other than follow what I have been instructed as far are diet. Tonight for example I ate 16 ounces of chicken broth in 15 minutes and only stopped because I feel like I should. Not because I was full, satisfied or had any irritation, stopped only because I felt that based off everything I’ve been told that was too much. Anyone out ther have a similar experience or advice? I thought 4 ounces was supposed to be normal. I’m freaking out that there will be no difference in appetite or ability to eat too much.

I think ones motivations and expectations dictate so much of this.

I did this solely to get healthier and improve how I physically felt. I did not expect rainbows and unicorns and for this to solve every problem or insecurity I’ve ever had.

Even though I’m not to goal yet, I can honestly say mission accomplished. My health has improved drastically. I’m able to do things I wouldn’t normally have been able to or dared to do.

Like many others, I only wish I had taken this step sooner.

Liquids go down super easy.
Purées will likely go down easy, too. You won’t really start feeling restriction much until you get to more solid food. :)

You may not dump. Only 30% of gastric bypass patients experience it and it can usually be managed by not eating the offending food (e.g. candy, dessert, sugar, processed food), which is typically not good for you anyways.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
