March 2019 sleepers

Recommended Posts

Well technically You All Are March Sleepers, nobody is doing such Bariatric Surgery with a local, my Doctor Needleman is as brave as most but even HE wouldn't want ME awake making comments through the whole procedure. Just. some get ESG,VSG, DS, RnY bypass but every man Jack is in La- La-Land at that time. I was an awake endoscopy, an EGJ, but THAT wasn't planned, they undersedated me, red-heads require more. Did not scare me and/or upset me but then I'm the 1 in a million person. So dang special I nearly stink!👈😝👉

I'm getting nervous about my ability to follow through with all the changes I have to make- any suggestions?

This is my 3rd bariatric surgery. Taking it one day at a time for the pre-op diet is key. Make sure you space out your Protein Shakes equally throughout the day and stay hydrated with Water (crystal light, no sugar drinks) and broth. If you know you have a bad habit of late night eating plan for that by getting to bed early or just keeping busy and preoccupied. Boredom is not your friend during the liquid diet phase. Good luck!!

You’re feeling nauseated and tired on the pre-op diet? I think that’s relatively normal if your otherwise healthy. What day are you on? It’s an adjustment from the way we use to eat to the pre-op diet way. You should feel better soon once you get into the zone and get use to the change.

Hi! I had the lap band and revised to sleeve 05/2017. I lost about 75lbs. I did really really well. But at almost 6 months out I developed severe Reflux. After trying every ppi and otc reflux med out there and not getting a satisfactory response from my surgeon I switched hospitals. My current surgeon believes that is it a possibility that the surgeon who did my sleeve was inexperienced with lap band to RNY and choose to go with what he could handle. I’ve regained about 25lbs because bread and nuts didn’t really agitate my reflux as much and sometimes it was easier to choose not being in pain. If you already have GERD and/or reflux be aware that it can get worse after the sleeve. A lot of ppl who have the sleeve as a virgin surgery do just fine on it and don’t have these complications. I’m just happy that the end is almost in sight! Good luck!

Congrats to you March Sleevers- I start my 2 week preop diet tomorrow. Surgery is March 12. I've got everything bagged and ready and a shaker bottle, chicken broth and sugar free Jello. I hope I'm as mentally ready as I am physically ready. We've got this. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
