1 Week Post Op...

Recommended Posts

I felt pretty ok the first few days but the last couple days I've been waking up feeling super cruddy... Absolutely no energy, headachey and a little nauseous. I'm supposed to be walking every day but every time I stand up I feel like I'm going to pass out. I've been drinking 48-60 oz of Water and getting about 55 grams of Protein a day. At this point I may be regretting my decision to have the surgery. I didn't know I would feel this bad. Is this normal? Any advice?

Maybe, just maybe, you are starting to burn off your fat reserves. It is called ketosis and can be a🐻 bear to go through.

Yes, that is a possibility. Although, I had been sticking to the very low carb/no sugar pre op diet to a t so I feel like I would've already entered ketosis mode. Did you experience this?

I feel like that most mornings but i try do a 500ml (16oz) Fluid bolus as soon as i wake up and after about an hour i feel fine. Anytime i feel woozy or nauseous ive found its almost always because i was down on fluids or my body needed a bit more. Try it out and see it it helps you. If not then reassess check your diet make sure your getting in all your nutrients and Protein and when you feel up to it definitely exercise will speed up the recovery phase. Im three weeks out myself and thats what ive found helps me. Hope it helps you :)

Yep, a lot of people complain about breath/ taste in 👄 mouth. Mine is even weirder, although I did find someone else. Armpit odor, like rotten onions decomposing, nobody around me has complained, maybe because I keep my arms down, no flailing around like a cheerleader📣but while I was the old rotund Frustr8, put my antiperspirant on in the morning and was fine all day. Not so now!

I’m a week and a half out from surgery. The past two days I finally felt like I had some energy. I’ve lost 17 lbs. I’m going to trying some soft food today. It still hurts if I swallow too much.

My doc gave me 2 weeks of zofran shots for nausea and I think that really helps . I also get tired very quickly and I was in pretty good shape prior, doing 5-6 days of spin and yoga before surgery . My 82 yo mother had more energy than me on a 10 minute walk 4 days after surgery ! I found that I get super tired when not enough liquids and. Frankly I have been maybe on 200 calories a day for a few days so hopefully today I can get in some Protein and get more energy .

Well, as it turns out, I started feeling so ill, I landed in the ER and they found extensive blood clots in my abdominal veins 😬 That explains it!

I know! Everyone, including my care team, kept telling me that I was fine and probably just constipated 😲😏I'm glad I trusted my gut (literally!) and went in. They have me on strong blood thinners and I seem to be improving now. It could have been a lot worse if I had waited going in.

Yeah I would not have had you here to talk to. Your body does have its own wisdom, we just don't pick up the cues or listen very well. I started telling my bariatric team at 2 weeks there was something WRONG, at a month, basically they thought to shut ME up, an endoscopy was scheduled, I was right, they were wrong, I did have a stricture in my new little pouch and multiple ulcerations, been 3 months of repeated endoscopies, medications, going back to liquid diets, removing stressors like tobacco smoke in my presence, adding more medications and finally installing a PICC line, putting me on IV Nutrition, and the story isn't completely over. But I will be better, get better and heal, and I pray to be dancing in the sunlight of better health with all the other Bypassers and sleevers soon. Don't count me out folks, I'm not going anywhere until I gain my ✌ victory! I'm stubborn, red-headed and never accept "No" votes in Life!

Oh my goodness, you've been through a lot! I'm sorry to hear that but so glad they finally figured it out and you're on a recovery path. It's so easy to take our good health for granted until something like this happens! I hope months down the road the both of us will be much slimmer, feeling good and energetic and have all this behind us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
