Not sure what you are taking but I know that I was taking them twice a day. You may want to inquire about that, I can tell you that I am still on them over a year later and I would like to try and wean myself off of them in about another 6 months to a year. (we shall see.....) I know when I have not taken them and know exactly what the problem is....my Dr told me to try a probiotic and that works some, but I definitely need the acid reducer. Talk to your Dr and tell them what is going on, and they will help you.

thank you

I had my surgery in April 2017, and have had to take omeprazole ever since. I can stop taking it for like a week, but then the acid in stomach comes up into my throat. It's awful. My dr says its normal but sometimes people choose to go back and get the full bypass done to get rid of the acid.

I had gastric sleeve 12/11/18 and I've been getting a little when I lay down, but not when I'm awake and sitting up.

I had terrible acid reflux after my gastric sleeve on December 12th. Every time I'd swallow, I'd have to burp and then a radiating pain would occur across my back. My doc said it was very bad reflux and prescribed me Calafate 4x a day, in addition to the esomeperazol that I was already taking. The pain went away after 5 days...thank God! Talk to your doc about taking something for it because there is relief out there.

There are several PPI that are good, sometimes it takes a little tweaking to find the one that works best for you. Most people do start out with omeprazole, didn't work for me but Dexilent does.💊

I just got off my 8 weeks of ppi (sleeved 11/21) and i am already experiencing heart burn. I never had it before surgery and I am so terrified this is going to become an issue.
One of my biggest fears leading up to this was reflux.
We went out with some friends last night and I took my Vitamins right before I laid down because we got back pretty late... which I try to not do.
Could this be why I'm having reflux tonight?

Has anyone experience terrible heartburn only at night , i'm 8 days post op the first 3 days i didn't have heartburn, after that every night i wake up after 2 am with pain in my stomach it's like slow motion cramps, i take a couple of tums and i'm OK for couple of hours then they wake me up again, i didn't have any heartburn problems prior the surgery.

I'm wonder is it is common after surgery and how long they will last? hopefully not forever

I had the sleeve with Hiatal Hernia repair. I didn't have the cramping that you are having but I did have the heartburn which I did not have prior to surgery. I am almost six months out and I don't have heartburn hardly at all now. Let your doctor know but I wanted to tell you people told me it would get better and for me it did. Hope it does for you too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
