4 weeks Post Op and gain

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post op and I weight weekly. I gained 2 pounds this week. How is this possible when I am only taking in 500 or less calories a day? This is frustrating to me as I am down 20 pounds since starting my liquid diet, I thought the weight would come off quicker.

Hang tight. I know how hard it is to be doing everything you were told. S*** Happens!! Just stay on your program it will come off. I just looked at your stats, Our starting weight is almost the same. I had my RNY 5 years ago. My beginning weight was 249#'s I am 5ft 4 inches. I lost 124#'s. I reached my goal weight in 6 months but...I had problems with Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I had 5 Endoscopes with 4 dialations. I believe that is why I lost my weight so fast. CONGRADULATIONS!!! You are doing great. Remember everyone loses their weight differently. Stay the course and it will happen for you.

Hey there. Don't be discouraged, as our bodies make adjustments, some weeks go swimmingly and others not so much. I'm 10 months out and even though I weigh weekly, I focus on monthly outcomes as weekly focus can cause way to much freak out and anxiety. It will come off. Hang in there.

Bodies are strange. They can fluctuate for many reasons - salt, time of month, exercise (you're muscles can retain fluids while healing), or just because it wants to. Don't look at the daily/weekly - look at the trend. You can create a trendline in a spreadsheet that will show that even if you're up a little this week, the overall trend will be down.

Don't feel bad - it's normal (I am still trying to convince myself of this truth). I am 6.5 weeks and I have seen occasions where it's gone up a pound or two. I eat as little as you, too. I also expected weight to come off faster, but slow and steady wins the race. I guess we really don't want 50lbs dropping in a month (I mean we do... but... y'know... probably not the healthiest way to go). It is very, very frustrating... we will get there. There's a thread Weight Loss Stall Venting I made where I ranted in all caps about the exact same thing... at my 4 week mark. lmao. I AM ONLY EATING 400 CALORIES A DAY HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE I BURN 1500 CALORIES JUST EXISTING?!?! kind of rant.

It is totally normal. I had my surgery on 11/8 and on 12/2 i gained 3 pounds. I figured it was because my time of month was due to show up since it last appeared on 11/7.. it never showed up (till today lol) but i was about til 12/10 that it went back down and i am losing since. I think it may also have to do with your body catching up to you, can be dependent on bowel movements and Water retention if you had something with salt. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will see it come back off.

I'm 4wks post op too and at first I dropped 16lbs the first wk then I gained 5lbs back. went back to see my surgeon and nutritionist in tears as I told them I guess I was just meant to be fat because I was drinking my fluids only taking in 600 or so calories and what they told me was are you taking in at least 60grams of protien and eating every 3 hrs I wad like not really. so now that I literally time myself eating EVERY 3hrs and getting better at my protien intake This week im down to a total loss of 19lbs.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
