Fruits and Vegetables

Recommended Posts

It's been 12 days since I was banded (11/1/07) and I have a serious craving for fruits and vegetables.

I am in the mushy stage and so far I have had yogurt, Protein shakes, Jello, pudding, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, creamy Soups, mashed potatoes etc...

I know I am not ready for "real food" yet, but since that's gonna be in another two weeks or so, I would like to know what kind of fruits and vegetables many of you started with in the beginning.

I would love to bite at an apple, or have nice ceaser salad...

I wouldn't attempt any fruit or veggie right now unless it was cooked and mashed or blended. You can have raw applesauce by putting a fresh apple in the blender with a little sugar or spenda, some cinnamon and a dash of lemon to keep it from turning brown.

I really liked cooked carrots, chaote squash and other smooth veggies mashed with a little butter.

Whole fruits with skins can cause problems this early out. Any veggie should be alright as long as it is cooked soft and mashed or blended.

I would wait at least 6 weeks before I attempted salad. You are healing now and don't want to risk getting stuck.

My dietary coordinator said butternut squash mashed with a little butter was good during mushies. She also said cooked spinach would be okay. I would try very soft cooked veggies....I would not recommend any raw fruits or veggies at this time. Maybe try some canned fruit if that is allowed on your mushies phase (it was on mine). Applesauce is good too.

I know what you mean. I am having salad veggies prior to my first fill, but haven't yet tackled apples or pineapple.

I started at about 3 weeks with shredded lettuce and sliced Tomato for that fresh taste/feeling. So far, that sort of fresh is all I have had.

Hi Solaa5

Can't help re mushie stage as Im still on liquids but I wondered if u might try V8 Vegetable juice for your veggie fix until your tum is ready for the real stuff.

Its a blend of Tomatoes, Celery, Carrot, Lettuce, Watercress, Parsley, Beetroot & Spinach and very tasty I think.

I would avoid lettuce for a while. My dr suggested giving it up, because no matter how much you chew it, it doesnt break down that well. I was a salad junkie before getting banded, so its gonna be rough for me. Well cooked cauliflower, broccoli, carrots go down very easy for me, but we are all different. The frozen microwave ones are good and they have the calorie/carb/protein content on the boxes.

When I was on mushies, I had baby food Butternut Squash and baby food Green Beans (I added salt). They were yummy! And if you like V-8, its very vegetable-y. I'm actually having one right now for b'fast

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
