Well it shouldn't be too difficult, there many more over 50s than there used to be. I guess we all realized it was time, we wanted surgery before everything fell apart. And to all the people who say "Why now?" or "Couldn't you have found a better age or time?"
Well now is a perfect time for me, I have the commitment, I have the time, I do know what I am doing. In my case, I realized I feared surgery a lot less than remaining obese, in pain and no hope for the future. Now things have fallen in place like a Big JigSaw puzzle, there are pieces still to put in, but I expect it to be pretty enough it should be framed. So watch the jet contrail, I'm flying high, straight and true and my destination is just ahead. My personal motto today;
Making the Rest of My Life the Best of My Life!

70 here. Wish I had done this when I was 60, I also had many nay sayers but I knew I needed to get healthier and breath easier. I had lost weight in the past, so I know I can do it, but now I have a tool to keep it off.

Ok, Im not over the 50 mark, but my husband is. Im just a bit younger than him at 48. Ive been thinking about getting help with my weight since about age 30 but had more important things to do. So only now was the right time. In addition to that, it seemed that doctors were reticent about operating on me since there were no other health issues. Now with my older years approaching, health care in Sweden has changed their minds and made it easier. So it's now covered for higher BMIs.

I am 70. Had the surgery 6 years ago. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I had my sleeve about 2 months shy of my 54th birthday. Wish I had done it sooner but have ZERO regrets. I am 22 months post sleeve and have held a steady weight loss of 115 lbs. I feel so much younger and more energized. Knee pain and foot pain are gone!!  I have already had some PS!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
