Islamic Car Coming Down the Pike? -- 11/12/2007

Coming soon? A car designed for Muslims, complete with a compass to indicate the direction of Mecca for prayers and a compartment to house the Koran and prayer scarves.

Proposed by Iran, the plan is under consideration by Malaysia's national auto maker Proton, the company's managing director said at the weekend in Tehran, where he is taking part in a business mission.

Other features would include a roomy trunk where you can store your wives while running errands, radar detectors that spot Jews and Infidels, engines that shut off automatically five times a day for prayer purposes and most importantly a chassis packed with lots of high explosives and a dash-mounted detonator button for when your sleeper cell gets the word that it's "Jihad" time for the glory of God. Allahu Akhbar, baby!

I actually find this extremely offensive and ignorant. Frankly Im appalled.

I understand this is the "rants and raves" section but its not (or should not be) the place for hate speech.

I think people need to lighten up a little and take a joke once in awhile. Or is the world so PC we can't do that anymore out of fear of repercussions? Anyone who doesn't think the idea of this car is funny really has no sense of humor. Its like making a car for Catholics that have built in holy Water cup holders and a built in pedophile protection from priests. This coming from a Catholic who can laugh at himself.

The difference is that speaking generally Catholics are not victimised, reviled and hated on the basis of the actions of a minority of their population the way Muslims are today.

I know what it has been like in australia in the wake of 9/11, I can only imagine what its been like in the states.

Well said Jachut, you took the words right out of my mouth.

To me (and Derick knows I think he's a good guy, so it isn't that I don't), it's no different than a white person getting up on stage in black-face, dancing around and singing exagerratedly with their eyes bugged out. It's offensive. This statement following the quote wasn't amusing in the slightest.

Derrick, Chris I will point you to the thread above about the use of the N word. If you need any further pointers on what constitutes racism please feel free to ask.

Like I said PC world gone wild when someone can't take a joke. I am FAR from a racist and I am sure Derrick is. He made an off collar joke and thats all it was. So since 9/11 we are not allowed to tease a certain religion. Persecuted? Are you seriously kidding me? So I guess you have never heard all the jokes about Catholics and there priests. Give me a break people.

I can point you to a thread NINA that states the Rants and Raves section is not for wussies and besides Muslim is not a race its a Religion. He didn't call them Sand"insert N word". Now that would have been screwed up and I would have agreed. With all the religion bashing some in this thread have done they should have no room to comment.

Besides he just used satire on whats going on in present day society.

Facts*

-Some Muslims have more than one wives in certain countries

-They do stop for prayer 5 times a day

-Many do spout off anti-Jewish hate (Iranian President, also where car may be built)

-Lately there are an awful lot of them using the excuse of Jihad to blow up themselves or there cars to kill western people. Unless people have not watched the news EVER.

So break it down a bit.

First of all, ISLAM is a religion. A Muslim is one who adheres to ISLAM. We worship the same GOD of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, as well as all the other prophets sent by GOD. I can take a joke, but it did offend me, as I am a Muslim. I would never kidding around or jokingly say anything offensive about any religion. Have a nice day!!

Well yes, it is offensive. But isn't that what a lot of humor is all about. Stereotypes in the extremes are the main fodder for all of the late night comics. Whether or not something is funny is usually based on your own experience. From an American point of view, a car strictly for any religion would be a ridiculous concept.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
