Ladies- how do you deal with hair loss?

Recommended Posts

It’s gonna happen and I just want to be prepared. I already have fine, thin hair. So bad when I pull it back you see my scalp. I’m wondering will I need a wig, a topper, cut it real short? I’d like to hear from you gals who’ve had pretty heavy loss and what you did to deal with it- thanks!

I take Biotin but if it starts to thin I plan to sharpie my scalp in the part line!
Does sharpie really work? My hair is growing in real well but the new hair growing in is very unruly. The important thing is that it does come back.

I've been using Toppix hair fibers in the part area so that the thinning is less obvious.

The endo just told me I'm on the low end of Vitamins A, D, zinc, and Iron. So I have to follow up to find out what I'm supposed to take. I do not think loading on Biotin helps? @GreenTealael swears by L-Lysine (an amino acid).

Water soluble Vitamins leave in the urine when the upper limit is reached so you are effectively pissing away your money...

I just found this study: http://bariatrictimes.com/hair-loss-among-bariatric-surgery-patients/

I was thinking of adding a spoon of Carlson's cod liver oil (for a dose of A, D, E, and K), but have no idea if RNY patients can absorb the oil? I'm also gonna add 1/2 tablet (25mg) of zinc for a bit and I'm switching my Iron to Feosol Complete which is part heme iron and supposedly better absorbed. I'm also gonna go get some L-Lysine and take 1.5mg per day of it. What do you think @GreenTealael

My mother swore by cod liver oil when we were young, I even gave it to my children. It comes cherry flavor too. I eat zinc lozenges regularly because I'm a baby and can't take another damn pill these days, I also got IV Iron, I'll tell you about that later. I say if LLysine is good enough plot point for Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park, it's good enough to save my hair line from extinction

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

This citrus flavor is pretty awesome. We used to take it all the time and felt great with it. I just don't know if I will absorb it as an RNY? Or if I need the "dry form" of Vitamin A? LIke from Biotech? Opinions? https://www.amazon.com/BIO-TECH-Bio-Tech-A-25-100-caps/dp/B00CS4C52C/ref=as_sl_pc_ss_til?tag=joutoaheame-20&linkCode=w01&linkId=G5UZQMRTT5FKV27J&creativeASIN=B00CS4C52C

And here I am under orders to NOT take: iron, Vitamin D, or Calcium. I see the kidney doc again after Christmas. All my orders will probably change.

I am 5 months out and *knocks on wood* have not had much Hair loss. I don’t know if it may still happen or if I just got extremely lucky? The only things I think may have contributed was working out prior to surgery (so perhaps the surgery wasn’t so hard on my body) and also- meeting my Protein goals out of the gate. Both of these things could have maybe lessened the shock of surgery on my body.

I have been taking Biotin for about a year. It doesn’t prevent the extreme shedding, but it will make your remaining hair healthy. I also use a co-wash called unwashed and try to be extra gentle to my hair when brushing, styling, and making sure to not over wash.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
