nursenays 57 Posted December 15, 2018 It’s gonna happen and I just want to be prepared. I already have fine, thin hair. So bad when I pull it back you see my scalp. I’m wondering will I need a wig, a topper, cut it real short? I’d like to hear from you gals who’ve had pretty heavy loss and what you did to deal with it- thanks! 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
EH 1 Posted December 15, 2018 I take Biotin 20,000 mcg a day plus zinc 50 mg per day My hair is Snow White and thin so you see my scalp. It takes about six months but you will see a difference. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

nomorefattypatty 329 Posted December 15, 2018 I take Biotin but if it starts to thin I plan to sharpie my scalp in the part line!Does sharpie really work? My hair is growing in real well but the new hair growing in is very unruly. The important thing is that it does come back. Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted December 15, 2018 I've been using Toppix hair fibers in the part area so that the thinning is less obvious. 3 GreenTealael, FluffyChix and sillykitty reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted December 15, 2018 The endo just told me I'm on the low end of Vitamins A, D, zinc, and Iron. So I have to follow up to find out what I'm supposed to take. I do not think loading on Biotin helps? @GreenTealael swears by L-Lysine (an amino acid). 2 sillykitty and GreenTealael reacted to this

FluffyChix 17,415 Posted December 15, 2018 I just found this study: http://bariatrictimes.com/hair-loss-among-bariatric-surgery-patients/ I was thinking of adding a spoon of Carlson's cod liver oil (for a dose of A, D, E, and K), but have no idea if RNY patients can absorb the oil? I'm also gonna add 1/2 tablet (25mg) of zinc for a bit and I'm switching my Iron to Feosol Complete which is part heme iron and supposedly better absorbed. I'm also gonna go get some L-Lysine and take 1.5mg per day of it. What do you think @GreenTealael 2 1 Orchids&Dragons, sillykitty and GreenTealael reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,436 Posted December 15, 2018 My mother swore by cod liver oil when we were young, I even gave it to my children. It comes cherry flavor too. I eat zinc lozenges regularly because I'm a baby and can't take another damn pill these days, I also got IV Iron, I'll tell you about that later. I say if LLysine is good enough plot point for Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park, it's good enough to save my hair line from extinction 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 3 Orchids&Dragons, sillykitty and FluffyChix reacted to this

We used to take it all the time and felt great with it. I just don't know if I will absorb it as an RNY? Or if I need the "dry form" of Vitamin A? LIke from Biotech? I see the kidney doc again after Christmas. All my orders will probably change. 1 1 GreenTealael and FluffyChix reacted to this

insta_adventurer 1,046 Posted December 15, 2018 I am 5 months out and *knocks on wood* have not had much Hair loss. I don’t know if it may still happen or if I just got extremely lucky? The only things I think may have contributed was working out prior to surgery (so perhaps the surgery wasn’t so hard on my body) and also- meeting my Protein goals out of the gate. Both of these things could have maybe lessened the shock of surgery on my body. I have been taking Biotin for about a year. It doesn’t prevent the extreme shedding, but it will make your remaining hair healthy. I also use a co-wash called unwashed and try to be extra gentle to my hair when brushing, styling, and making sure to not over wash. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
