How is water going for people?

Recommended Posts

I have never been a Water drinker, but since surgery, it has gotten worse! I drink about 16fl ounces of water a day!!! I just seem to drink when I’m thirsty, and I’m not thirsty too often. How is water going for everyone else? Tomorrow I will be 17 weeks post op.

I was about 10oz a day for 3 weeks. I've managed to get to 40 usually, but I get nauseous when I drink... I force through it when I can. I sip all day but then I look in my thermos and it's like nothing has been drank! Other liquids count, too, towards your total, though... like broth and Soup and popsicles and shakes and stuff.

Oh, my. You really need to up that Water intake. My goal is 90oz a day, and I'm usually able to hit it. I was getting my 64oz a day by a week post op, so it's doable. Add water flavoring to it if you need to, but you've really got to get more water.

Current medical research is showing that the human body needs between 90 and 110 oz of water a day. And that's for NORMAL humans. This doesn't include increased need for exercise. The human body uses water to process fat. So, if you aren't giving your body what it needs just to do it's normal day to day, fat loss is going to suffer, greatly. Not even getting into the whole persistent dehydration state thing. Do your best to try to hit 128 oz of water a day. I know it seems tough, but just do your best and you WILL see the benefits of doing so!

Try adding a tea bag and a splash of non fat milk

I hit 100 plus ounces daily. It didn't start off that way and it's sometimes easy to forget to drink. I count the Water I use to make my shakes as well though. I have two shakes a day @ around 35 ounces each and two to three refills on my water bottle which is 26 ounces.

You have to work to make it a habit. Have that water bottle by your side at all times. Sip all the time, not just when you have a thirst. If you have to, do like others do and add that flavoring or drink the GatoradeZero or tea.

My biggest issue is how many times throughout the day I have to get to the can and take a piss. Learning to live with that as well.

I struggle too. Averaging about 25 oz per day at 4 months post surgery. I'm well aware that I need to drink much much more.

For my program, the goal is liquids, not just Water - so Protein Shakes, tea, water, milk, etc. My minimum goal is 8 cups (64 oz) of liquid. I usually get more. I typically get some in my Breakfast Protein Shake, then two 24oz bottles of plain water, some tea in the afternoon (12-16 oz) and sometimes a hot chocolate (fairlife milk, 1 TBL cocoa, 1 packet stevia) at night. Ends up somewhere around 80oz of liquids.

Keep working at it and trying different things - different types of liquids, different temps, etc.

I'm 5 months post op-Water is an issue for me now and for most..before surgery i could drink 1 liter of Water from 8am-1pm and 1 liter from 2pm -5pm with no problem.
Now i cant handle plain water and i dont know why??? Is it in my head??...
I buy crystal light Rasberry green tea drink mix packets that are for 16oz water bottle but i pour it on 32oz water bottle its the only way [emoji57] ill take it. Some times i will finish 2 bottles of 32oz a day. Sometimes 1 and 1/2.
Working on it.

Same for me. My program is also liquids, not necessarily just water. Like, if I even have a sugar free Jello, that counts as 2 ounces. I try to get 90oz a day; didn't make it yesterday though...oops

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
