When do you start losing weight?

Recommended Posts

You will! The more you move the more you will notice the change. I'm 2 1/2 weeks and as long as I don't just sit the entire day-it goes down daily.

I didn't lose anything the first week really. In fact, I came out of the hospital weighing 10 pounds heavier after 48 hours of IV fluids, Pepcid and protonix. It took several days to get rid of the excess Fluid. I'm 2 weeks post op today and the scale is finally moving in the right direction. I've lost just over 8lbs since surgery

The first month is very unpredictable. Some people lose straight away, others don't. It depends on how swollen your insides are and how fast/slowly you heal. Some doctors recommend no weighing until after one month.

I had my surgery on the 10th. Came home yesterday and immediately stepped on the scale. Was 16lbs heavier then when I went in. Since leaving hospital I’ve been hitting the bathroom about twice an hour. I guess the iv fluids coming out. Weighed this morning and was down below when I went in for surgery. I also make it a point to walk for 5-10 min an hour to heal with soreness. Makes a huge difference. Good luck.

I've noticed roughly every two weeks you will see a change on the scale. If I'm really good and follow the plan for two weeks straight I will jump on the scale one morning and 2-4 pounds are gone. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I highly recommend tracking your weight with an app and taking note of your cycle as well. I use My Fitness Pal. As you get further along you will notice a pattern related to your TOM.

Took me 2 weeks to take OFF the 10lbs I gained coming home from the hospital. After that I lost only 1-2lbs a week until I got my Protein up and then was averaging 3-5lbs per week until recently bc weight loss has slowed down a little. I’m close to 5 months post op. Ive learned that even if you aren’t cheating and hitting the gym religiously there will always be stalls and slow losses. It will come off eventually though!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
