Had my Hernia repair & Panni Dec 5th

Recommended Posts

Had my third Excess skin removal surgery Dec 5th. Have lost over 270 pounds and finally had my hernia repair and 10 pounds of my tummy skin removed. Spent 1 night in the hospital and was up out of bed within 12 hours of my surgeries. Was told my hernia was twisted and encased and the Dr did not want to use mesh because of possible infection. He had to take my belly button for the same reason. I have been taking Tylenol extra strength and tramadol. Have 2 drains and had a followup yesterday. Was told I am healing well but still need to keep the drains in. Was tired yesterday from the trip to and from the followup but overall I am doing better than when I had my Brachioplasty in March.

Well I looked in my mirror, thought I looked like a cross between road kill and train wreck. As I lose, my face is looking gaunt, my neck is getting wrinkled like a Tortoise and I thought my skin tone was looking waxy gray. Then I visited my surgeon in Columbus, he felt I was losing down gradually, and my skin tone wasn't all bad for as long as I had stretched it out. And my skin is fine, just Midwestern stayed inside because of the coldness. Said I'm sure you'll pick up a little tan in spring, I'm Celtic, sometimes all I can hope for is a new batch,of freckles or fresh rust spots. But if Big Kahuna is happy, guess I will be too.

And alas, the only way I will get skin removal is if they would accept pictures of breakdown, fungal infections. Are pictures going to help?

So sorry for being away for so long. Yes, pictures will help as well as letters from the various Doctors who might be treating you for the infections. My PS doctor knows how to fight and got all three of my Excess skin removal surgeries approved and is currently working on getting approval for the next one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
