Emmy J 23 Posted December 11, 2018 Hi everyone - newbie here. I've attended the seminar about WLS and turned in paperwork...just waiting for a phone call. I've read on here that some docs won't do gastric sleeve if you have acid reflux....they steer you towards bypass. Has anyone with a history of acid reflux had the sleeve surgery? In the seminar the doctor mentioned surgery fixing your acid reflux and not having to take the purple pill anymore. Obviously since I haven't met the doctor yet, I do not know what he will recommend for me surgery wise but I was leaning towards the sleeve as the best option for me. S@ssen@ch 745 Posted December 11, 2018 I have acid reflux. When I was in the pre-op process, my doctor voiced concerns and evaluated my reflux, but didn't try to dissuade me or refuse to do a sleeve on someone with reflux. The worst one on my team was my psychiatrist, of all people. She got a little snotty with me and said that she didn't think that the weight loss I could expect from surgery was worth intractable reflux. 😡 My reflux was largely in control when I was sleeved, WITHOUT the purple pill or any other treatments. My doctor believes that my reflux was largely situational, meaning that my lifestyle contributed to it (obesity, diet, etc). So, we proceeded. About 4 weeks after I was sleeved, I started developing heartburn. Having had reflux before, I knew what to do and started taking the purple pill right away. No problems since then. 1 Emmy J reacted to this
