What veggies did you start with in the solid food stage?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I'm 2 weeks into the solid food stage and I'm craving some veggies but I'm scared of how my sleeve will take it. I've just been going on Protein for the past 2 weeks but I am looking for some sides to pair them with.

Any suggestions? What did you start with and how did you make them?

Thank you! :)

I had no trouble with any veggie when I started on solid foods, but I did cook them all to soften them. I was wary of salads and raw veggies early in my recovery, only trying them very slowly and one thing at a time.

Even today, I don't eat a lot of raw veggies. i eat them, just not a lot. They tend to fill me up a little faster, but they don't satisfy as long.

My advice: eat what you like because eating things you don't like is hard to sustain. When trying new things, try them one at a time (not mixed with other foods) and take it slow because if something doesn't agree with you you'll know what it was. Don't be afraid to try new things and be creative. Most of my life, I hated cucumbers. Now, I love them (especially with some good Hummus)!

I cannot wait to eat veggies. Following this thread for ideas! I start solids on December 20th.

I started with veggies that cooked up soft - Beans, broccoli, cauliflower etc. But I was lucky, because I moved on very quickly to salad vegetables - some people can't take anything with crunch until much later. I make sure I chew it very thoroughly and eat it slowly, so nothing hurts or feels stuck.

The only food that doesn't agree with me is white bread, and that's no loss really, because I'm fine with whole grain bread or tortillas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
