Anyone had trouble getting approved by insurance because of their weight history? Mine requires a BMI of at least 40 for the last 3 years if there’s no co morbidities. Back in 2016 I only weighed 230 which means my BMI was only 38 🙄 I’m really worried about not getting approved!!

Why so long of a High BMI? To see if its been an ongoing issue?

Mine required 5 years of BMI at 40 or over. Could only be less time with Co morbid conditions. I think a lot of insurance requirements are just to get out of covering it.

😱 Who’s your insurance company? I think mine requires this too, but my surgeon said they can get it all from my PCP. Can you appeal this?

BCBS of Alabama. Unfortunately(lol) I have been healthy other than my weight, but to be < 40 BMI I would need to weigh less than 280 and I haven’t been under 300 in almost 20 years. I am appealing with “dated photos”, just prayerful for a thumbs up. I had my first ugly cry through this whole process when I got the denial Friday.

Man, that’s terrible. I’ve been there and done that ugly cry too. I sure hope they turn it around and approve you. Keep us posted!

Thank you! On a good note I’ve survived without a Holiday disaster and am down 102lbs since starting- probably why I was ready for the breakdown, lol. Will report when I hear back!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
