Getting Banded 11/15/07

Recommended Posts

Okay, I am getting jittery about this whole thing. I know I need it. I know I want it. But all these messages read about pain, gas PB - it is scary.

If you are over 400 lbs (like me) does that mean your port will be deeper than a person in the 200-300 lbs range?

Is grape Jello considered clear Jello (lol) Just call me dumb.

Hi Missy, your port is placed just under the skin so he should be able to feel it no matter what. Yes, jello is a clear liquid. You can have anything that fits through a straw. Creamy Soups saved me. Good luck.

As far I know ports are not placed directly below the skin but are stiched to the muscle. This is why once you lose more weight you begin to be able to feel the port better and it will sometimes stick out of the skin. That is why there is such a thing as a low profile port.

Okay, don't get too jittery!! I just got banded yesterday and was so nervous nearly backing out just before they came in and gave me my meds to be put to sleep. It was very easy for me, and I was so scared, but so far so good

A little pain, but not much, and I was done so quick.

Good luck! i know it's scary!!!

Hey Pat,

I wasn't really all that nervous. Mine went fine. Only took pain meds for 2 days. Now 12 days out and no pain what so ever. I did have a little bit of the shoulder pain, but the tylenol with codeine took care of it, and it only lasted a couple of days, on and off. It was real tough to get Water down for a couple of days, but now I can drink just fine. Don't worry yourself.

Welcome to the site and good luck! Jello of any flavor is fine, and i believe your port will be a little deeper as it is sewn to the muscle. Donna

I was just banded yesterday (Nov 12th). I was a wreck the day before, and I have to tell you it really wasn't bad at all. My surgery was at 9:30 am, and I was back home but 2:30. As for the gas, it is a pain (no pun intended) but walking really seems to help you feel better. I wish you the best, and try to stay calm. I wish I would have.:)

I was just banded on Friday, and I was feeling the same thing. I almost turned off my alarm to fake going back to bed. The absolut worst part of the surgery is over in a few days. We have the rest of our lives to be strong and really LIVE! That is what I want. Roller coasters, and mountain hikes, and to walk down the aisle on an airplane without turning sideways. So I don't care that every other commercial is food, or that I belch like a truck driver now - this too shall pass! You can do it! I didn't even fill the pain prescription! You can do it!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
