Ed_NW 684 Posted December 8, 2018 I think when a person is at the gym, (regardless of how they look) the perception is kind of like that of someone that is attending a college. That person is at that place to better themselves. Now if that same overweight person is at Walmart wearing skin tight clothes riding a scooter through the snack isle, they might be photographed and put on the interwebs for all to judge. Just saying...I've seen it. 1 1 FluffyChix and CyndieRI reacted to this
Healthy_life 1,437 Posted December 8, 2018 I am supportive of anyone at any size at the gym. People will see your hard work and the pounds coming off. You never know who you will inspire. Most of us have been judged by negative people in places besides the gym. You know who is supportive. Keep them around you. I am the wrong person to make a negative statement in the gym or anywhere about weight. Its funny because most don't know I was obese. 2 FluffyChix and CyndieRI reacted to this
CyndieRI 251 Posted December 8, 2018 Im a BIG girl (currently 291 down from 365). I look at it this way - If people are looking at me funny and/or internally mocking me to try to IMPROVE myself - then they aren’t the type of people I care about at all!! Just do it! Good luck!! 2 Hop_Scotch and Healthy_life reacted to this

Walter.Sobchak 978 Posted December 9, 2018 Do you have a Planet Fitness where you live? They are great. They essentially say “no douchebags allowed” makes it much easier to exercise without being embarrassed. As far as how to make yourself go? Let’s see, change into your gym clothes, drive to the gym, lock up your valuables and start working out. You have to force yourself to go. Once you go you will feel better. 4 Hop_Scotch, CyndieRI, Healthy_life and 1 other reacted to this
GettinSkinnywithit 180 Posted December 10, 2018 Find a workout friend! No one is watching you I promise and if they look it’s either because they are feeling an attraction to you or giving you a high five in their head! Life is short so screw what other people think - do it for you! 2 CyndieRI and FluffyChix reacted to this
Jazzy1125 1,010 Posted December 10, 2018 So question for all! I thought about Joining Planet Fitness today. Its on my way to the dance studio that i can go back to as of December 20th. I figured i could get my workouts in either before or after my dance classes. The only problem and dilemma i am having is.. All i know how to do is the treadmill, and the circuit with the weights. I feel like in the past when i was a member of planet fitness that was fine, but this time i am feeling like i want the one on one trainer all the time to help me push myself to the next level. I want a detailed program going into this, and not just arrive and use the treadmill daily and the weight circuit a few times a week. Thoughts?

I hurt myself trying to figure it out on my own. A trainer can keep you from injuring yourself. It's always best to have professional guidance if you can afford it. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
Mary Ellen Kane 23 Posted December 10, 2018 Not many people at the gym would be critical. They are there for the same reason. if anything they give you credit for trying . People too busy thinking about themselves! 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
Walter.Sobchak 978 Posted December 11, 2018 I would say it depends on the gym. There are some real douchebags at the gym, that will give dirty looks and what not. Especially after the first of the year as they get annoyed with all the people crowding the gym due to New Years resolutions. 2 CyndieRI and FluffyChix reacted to this
mi75 1,236 Posted December 11, 2018 Thanks everyone. Just mustering up the nerve to walk in tomorrow afternoon. Wish my luck! I ABSOLUTELY KNOW that this is the missing link in the final success of my weight loss 1 1 Healthy_life and FluffyChix reacted to this
Walter.Sobchak 978 Posted December 12, 2018 You got this. Just walk in with confidence and find the machine you want and start working out. Take your headphones and music and just do your thing. I think you have built it up too much in your head, don’t even think about it. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
mi75 1,236 Posted January 3, 2019 Update- found my tribe/vibe- decided to try CrossFit and love it. Hubs did it on/off for several years and now has decided to build our own 'home box'. So I'm getting the best of both worlds! 2 1 Healthy_life, FluffyChix and BrighterSide reacted to this
