Sophomoreville - A Home For The the Tweeners

I think I belong here! I am doing good. I just had my Dr. appointment and they told me I have lost 75% of my excess weight. That felt good to hear. I am so very close to my goal weight and will probably be in maintenance soon. I am excited to start my next journey into the world of plastics as soon as my doc okays it. As far as Hair loss goes it was bad around 6 months but has leveled off now. I chopped my hair when it was at its worse!

Yay!!! Good to see you guys here! Congrats on being so close to goal and for hitting 75%!!! That's outstanding sweet lady!!! Talk away!

I posted this in IF, but am cross-posting here cuz I'm an attention seeking ho with narcissistic tendencies. ;) hahahahaaha

This was my $15 haircut and color (demi-permanent), and I tipped $15--so $30 for everything. Sweet! I feel a little younger/better?

Yeah. It was just a quick snap for my sis. I'll try to get better pics this weekend if I have time. :) Although by then it might be back on top of my head again.

So, I am in about a 2.5 week stall (know it's inevitable, but still not fun!). I have been Zumbaing this week and am having such increased hunger, which makes sense. Unfortunately, I am craving carbs😒.

Dayum! Stalls suck monkey junk! :( And being hungrier...sux worse! It's the extra Zumba of course. Pound down that Water whenever you have a weak hunger moment! And fill up on protein!! My rule is if a hard boiled egg sounds good, then eat it! You're hungry! :)

I don't know ... I've googled the heck out of it, and have come up with nothing on the effects of non-acute dehydration. I have a good friend (an ex) who is a GI, and I have asked him about it. He repeats the 64 oz rule, but he admits he can't back up why, and admits he doesn't usually drink that much himself, except when he works out. And I'm the opposite, the more I drink, the harder time I have to continue drinking. If I hydrate well one day, the next day it is a struggle to repeat.

I didn't always drink enough. I had a high stress job that silently required I took very few lavatory breaks, like none, so I mistreated myself. When I left it, I decided to take better care of my body. hydrating greatly improved the luster and elasticity of my skin.

I've been told that I have the softest skin ever, childlike (but not in a creepy way)...

What I do know is that as we age, we have a tendency not to fully hydrate and we also lose our thirst mechanism. So many old peeps are chronically dehydrated. That causes ALL kinds of health issues especially as it pertains to vitamins/mins/electrolytes. :(

I also know that when we make ourselves drink, we wake up our thirst. Don't know why or how it happens. I can easily forget to drink. But when I do, I'm much, much, hungrier. I also think that it makes swallowing for me harder? Can't substantiate that though. I can now gulp water--if it's roomish temp. But if it's cold, then I have to slowly sip cuz it goes down in big "rocks" or lumps. And I can drink warm water/tea/coffee all day at very hot temps and I just want more and more. Probably the most of my liquid or at least 50/50 is in hot liquids. Cups of hot stuff. :D

The only thing that concerns me about only having 20oz per day, is that humans get as much as 80% of their "water" from foods. And as bariatrics, we're not eating that much! :) :( So we have to realize that our Fluid consumption has to be thought of independently.

What does your doc say about the amount you drink? Great that you have wonderful labs, but also know you're early days for lab crap to really show its ugly face. That can take as long as a couple of years of more? Maybe you're just "special" ;) We know you are, princess! Queen of Cardio! :D 🦄

Maybe I was born with a old person thirst mechanism? Maybe it's genetic, my mom is the same as I am, and has been her whole life?

Making myself drink when I'm not thirsty is a struggle, hte more I drink, the less I want to take the next sip. Instead of becoming a habit, each day I fully hydrate, it is harder and harder for me to do so the next day. The thought of taking a sip is distasteful.

I haven't spoken to my Dr. about it. I've spoken to his PA, she ok'd me drinking diet soda when I told her I struggled w fluid goals. She said it was better than nothing. But even with soda, I'm almost never getting 48 or 64. As I mentioned I've spoken to my GI friend, and he said it was important, but couldn't tell me why. He is generally very good at explaining the why's and how's.

I'm definitely special :lol: But really, isn't most of the world getting sub 48 oz? Maybe the super hydraters are the special ones? :P

Like alcohol?

Pre WLS, yes, definitely. But post WLS, I lost most of my taste for alcohol. I have left more half drunk beers behind because I just didn't want anymore. :blush:

Per my cardiologist, the 64 oz. was the result of a single study, and used people who worked both indoors and out in the heat. That's why he doesn't hold to it.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Woohoo! I have 7 more days till surgery, So far I am already down a total of 20lbs since I started this journey.
