Yea. I’m sick of this liquid diet. I really want to incorporate new stuff but it’s too soon and don’t want to get sick.

I can get around 50-55 ounces of liquid, but I'm so bored of everything that I'm drinking that it slows me down 😬

What things are you drinking? I put myself on a little rotation when it comes to my drinks so I don’t have tired of them easily.

I am six days gastric sleeve post-op and still in the hospital. I ended up being one of the rare cases where I had internal bleeding and almost died about 12 hours after surgery. They had to go back in, suction out all the blood, and re-cauterize everything. I also needed three blood transfusions. I’m finally off the IV fluids as of today, and if my hemoglobin levels are steady tomorrow morning, then I finally get to go home. Any other horror stories, or am I the only unlucky one?

Oh my lord. I am so sorry. That sounds terrible. I’m so glad you are doing good now. Unfortunately I didn’t have any complications so far. Just an occasional diaphragm spasm from swelling but comes and go super quickly. I really wish you the best now that the worst appears to be over 🙂

Right now I switch between Water, Protein water, Protein Shakes (vanilla, Peanut Butter, Cookies and cream, orange), and SF Jello and popsicles. Someone recommended that I try coconut water so I'm going to get that the next time I'm out. What about you?

Yeah my team actually says the opposite which makes sense if you think about it. Low sodium messes with your potassium and actually causes dehydration. You need 3-4grams of sodium a day. Worked wel for their patients.

Perhaps you need a new team.

High sodium REDUCES potassium and can cause dehydration.

I'm so sorry to hear this, but glad that they were able to catch that. I hope that you get to go home today and have a smooth recovery from here on out.

Hi Johnny,

thank you for your concern as well as the recommendation you gave a newly sleeved patient to ditch her care team instead of just saying “everyone’s plans are different”. While I am going to take the high road and choose not to contradict you just know I am not a fool especially when it comes to medicine. As a women who holds a PhD in a healthcare field, has worked in medicine for over 17 years, and has managed numerous medical clinics across multiple states including those relating to surgery, I can assure you that I am not an ignoramus who doesn’t understand the effects of nutrition on the body. But just for the heck of it, the 2016 Harvard Medical Review as well as the World Health organizations published study reviewing Sodium intake for adults and children published in the 5th Geneva, World Health Organization in 2014 states the recommended sodium level to be above <2grams and < 5grams per day. Sodium is different than SALT. My CARE TEAM has their patients living a full Keto diet for life after surgery to obtain optimum health. A keto Diet requires a minimum of 3-4 grams per day to get proper balance. When consuming a full liquid diet of higher Protein and less than 20grams of carbs a day your body goes in to KETOSIS requiring additional sodium (3-4grams) a day in order to balance out nutrients and promote health. Anyone consuming a liquid diet of atleast 60g protein and less than 20g carbs (every person I know post sleeve surgery who is following the liquid diet requirements) should be doing this. You can read this yourself if you look up anything regarding ketosis and sodium levels. Honestly, please don’t insult me, or my physicians and act like you know more than my own doctor. I would appreciate it.

Is there sugar in v8 fusion. I have v8 but was told not to drink. Kinda disappointed because I do like it. My surgeon said watered down shakes 2nd day but think it depends on each individual and surgeon. Guess I will wait and see how sick am feeling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
