Protein on the liquid diet

Recommended Posts

So day one of the liquid diet is in the books.....turns out I’m not as well read as I should be and also assumed things that I ought not have assumed, for instance finding Protein powders on Kodiak Island. My question is this, I need 80 grams minimum of protein per day and I am lactose intolerant. Any ideas other than dairy free Protein Shakes on how to squeeze that in? Keeping in mind I can’t just go to the store and pick up the plain Protein Powder I’ve seen explained on this forum?

I don't know the rest of your dietary needs, so take this with a grain of salt, but have you thought of adding silken tofu to your shakes? 4 oz is 16 grams of Protein, and it blends smooth...

Try some protein that *ONLY* has Protein Isolate, Isolate is highly filtered and contains little to no lactose.

You can go the "Rocky" method, adding raw eggs to your shakes until you can order some powders off the internet.

You're right! Then add in some tomatoes juice, and little lime, drop or two of Worcestershire, and just a bit of cyanne pepper.

Don't forget the vodka!

Thanks all, the Isolate is something I’ll have to check on. Bears are all hibernating, Rocky is legendary, raw eggs are not. Tofu.........

Yes, (well doesn't have to be "whey" but I don't think I've seen an Isolate that wasn't whey) but isolates typically do not have enough lactose in them to trigger a lactose intolerance issue.

I'm lactose intolerant, too. I'm planning on using lactaid pills to help.

I know, but it's flavor neutral, low fat, low carb, low calorie, high protein....I'm still waiting for all my paperwork to process, so I'm not pre-op yet. I will say that silken tofu makes a mean vegan Alfredo sauce, so it can't be **that** bad in shakes...or at least it's better than raw eggs?? [emoji13]

And since raw egg could have foodie "bad things" until cooked, I would not risk that. Sure Rocky did it, but he could afford Cedars of Sinai, can you?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
