I was sleeved on 11/21. I Don’t eat. Not that I’m proud of that. I try to take down as much Water as I can. I eat broth, Protein Shakes (well 1 a day). I’ve been going to the gym, now granted I’m walking on the treadmill. Trying to move more than before. Sorry I’m ranting. My question is, how the hell since 11/21 have I only lost 6 pounds? I feel so dejected. Was this surgery a a huge mistake?

No it wasnt. You have to remember that your body is really adjusting and recalibrating after a traumatic event. Don't be hard on yourself or be regretful. You have to also remember that you are not taking in a lot of calories and you are exercising on top of that. Your body may be in complete shock. Despite all of this...the scale is moving in the right direction. Now really ask yourself, without this surgery would you have really lost 6 pounds in that short period of time. If your metabolism is anything like mine ..its a whopping hell no!

I was sleeved on 11/28/18...and I know there will be some mental play here...so that is why I decided not to weigh myself. I have been the big girl for so long, I don't want to be in bondage by the scale anymore. That is why I will say to you. You had surgery to free yourself. Dont imprison yourself again with the numbers game. Think about it...the scale will change...but your mindset has to change too. Be patient with you and remember you did this to feel better about you. Whatever is going to out that in jeopardy, stay away from it.

I hope I'm not preaching...but I want you to know that you're journey is just beginning..and if you work your tool and be patient...your weight loss goal will come to fruition.

I was under the impression that most folks with the Sleeve were on a 1 month liquid diet post op anyway.

Your body is healing and still swollen inside, it will come off. Try not to focus so much on the scale, follow your plan and concentrate on getting your fluids in to prevent dehydration and work on your Protein intake...that's very important to help you heal...Remember non of us put this weight on over night so we should not realistically expect it to come off over night and please don't compare yourself to anyone. Remain positive you got this!!

btw: It's very normal to feel frustrated and it's ok, just don't stay there to long 😉

First - 6 lbs in a week and a half is GREAT. Likely your body gained some weight from swelling/fluid while in the hospital, so you're still working on that. One thing that has helped me feel better is that I created a chart (mine is in Google Sheets, but Excel would work too). It has my weight lost on it. Then I added a line that has a trendline from my surgery weight to the goal my doctor gave me (for me 60% EWL in 12 months). Even though I've had a couple weeks where I "only" lost 1.5 lbs or so, I am still WAY under the goal trend line. It helps me look at the big picture.

See below (with the actual weight removed). The dark blue line shows my actual losses. Light blue is the trend of my actual looses. Red is the trend if I want to lose 60% EWL in a year.

sorry you are feeling sad

many newbies are under the misconception that they will lose ie 50 lbs in one week

doesn't work that way🙁 It's always easy to GAIN weight, not as easy to lose/maintain

losing 6 lbs is nothing to sneeze over - good for you!!☺️

try not to get down on yourself, get upset, wonder if you should have had surgery

(easier said than done) many OP temporarily feel upset post op - they don't feel well, get nauseous etc - have problems drinking Water PO for awhile. good for you on realizing you must have liquids (can't afford to get dehydrated!) broth, Protein Shakes are good.

continue to push those liquids, have popsicles too, they taste great (to me) you are and will continue to do great!! I can feel it in my bones!!

  • Day 4-14 Full liquid & Protein
  • Weeks 3-4 Blended/Pureed
  • Weeks 5-6 Soft Foods
  • Weeks 7-12 Early transition to Solid foods

  • Months 7+ Lifetime Healthy meal plan

So yeah about a month out I started eating things that looked like regular foods.

Also I lost 15-17lbs the first month then stalled for a month if I remember correctly. So there is hope for slow losers @Yolie1977!!!

I think 1 month liquid diet is NOT the norm

all peoples directions from NUT are different

I was on liquids for one week PO

You had Major surgery and your body will take some time to get over that.

You are/were metabolically broken. This will take some time to resolve and it varies by person but as your body heals things will adjust and it will start to happen and then it will speed up as you stick to plan and build upon the changes going on inside you.

This surgery will be worth it

You are fighting the real hard part right now and that is the head game we all play with ourselves

If you win this mental game you will have a great outcome.

stay on plan and stay strong

you spent a lifetime getting overweight give the surgery time to work.

Excellent, may get a button or t-shirt that says this. Metabolically Broken- but Healing Now! And just watch my weight keep dropping, and if mine does yours will also. The Surgical Power will lead to Happier Hours!

Don’t worry about the scale right now, worry about intake. Drink your Water and your liquids constantly. Right now, unless you’re getting milkshakes and melting down chocolate Santas, you’re not going to be able to damage your weight loss through ingesting broths, shakes and other nutritionist-approved liquids. But you CAN screw yourself up by NOT taking in enough calories/nutrients/liquids at this stage.

It’ll happen. You didn’t make a mistake. You’re in the lull where you think you should be feeling better than you are, and you want a metric to counterbalance the emotional frustration. Most people look to the scale for that metric, but short-term scale-watching isn’t going to give you the lift you’re looking for. Marathon, not sprint!

If you want a metric to focus on, track your Protein intake and water. You’ll get there, the patience part is one of the harder things to adjust to.

Everyone's body reacts differently to the surgery. We all have different metabolisms. Keep in mind you just lost about 3/4 of your stomach. Your body and your system has to take time to catch up to get used to this huge change. It will work, give it some time.

Also, don't obsess over the scale, the first six weeks should be dedicated to your healing. The sleeve needs to heal. Follow the program that was given to you.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
