As I get closer to my surgery (December 18), I keep having dreams that all have a common theme - me having conversations with people about doing something that could leave my kids without their mom. In the dreams, I'm much younger and my kids are little. Irl all my kids are adults, but I think I'm just having some fears about the surgery itself. I really think I can do the lifestyle change. Anyone else have these kinds of dreams/thoughts as you approached surgery?

I did have some thoughts but then thought about how great it will be in the future with the grandkids instead of leaving my weight going the way it was going. by the day of surgery, I was going into the hospital as if I had another task or errand to run.. I had never been so at peace for something. I left it all in God's hands as it is his plan to begin with.

I had a lot of anxiety and fears leading up to surgery. I am a single mom and thoughts of leaving my kids and something dreadful happening crept into my head until I started talking with people on these boards and really opened up to my family about my fears. I’m a registered nurse Also so you know how that goes.....have confidence and faith in the team who will be taking care of you. All will be well! You’ll be on the losers bench before you know it!

LGG2018, you probably know nurses, doctors and other healthcare workers are the WORST PATIENTS.We all know too doggone much, we see zebras when it's a simple herd of horses or ponies grazing out in the paddock. Hard to step down and relax! LOL mi amigo!😝📆😝

Yes @frustr8....exActly! How are you feeling by the way?! You are such a wonderful person...I can tell by the genuine love in your posts. I read you have been going through a lot since your surgery. Hoping all is getting better for you!

I am hopeful, yes I am. Still hospitalized, have been since Wednesday November 28, my first guess was dismissal tomorrow, now maybe 35% ? I now have a PICC line in my upper left arm, inner side toward my body. And I have a bag of TPN RUNNING IN continuingly, tonight if all is well they will start cycling it to prepare me for exit. But I WILL go home with the PICC line still in. I need to be on a higher Protein count than my current diet will provide to heal my rampant crop of ulcers. Every endoscopy they are discovering more, I have followed every instruction, taken every med, tried to ingest as much as my tempermental gastric pouch, Precious Pouch, will permit. Last I attemped to eat something she in the past had accepted, over 40 minutes to swallow, less than 10 minutes to empty back up. And that had been happening pretty frequently. So here. I BE!
PICC SITE- not excessively painful,feels like it was attached with a staple gun, but am learning how to pivot with it, got to take a walk with Physical Therapy pushing my pole, pretty fine to do. Alerted my nurse I was on the verge of an breakdown in my backside, near and into a**. crack, had one before, k,ow how it feels, have a shock- absorb dressing. And Oh I Does Help! Otherwise turning the corner on a slow pivot toward renewed health!

although I don't think I had such dreams (I usually don't remember my dreams, so I don't know for sure), I suppose that's not uncommon when people have upcoming surgeries. Just rest assured that WLS is one one of the safest surgeries there is - safer than a hip replacement surgery. Mortality rate is something like 0.3% on the bypass, even lower for the sleeve. That means there's a 99.7% chance you're going to pull through just fine. Complications aren't common and, when they exist, are usually minor. I had a stricture, which happens to about 5% of bypass patients (making it one of the more common complications). It was an easy fix. Try not to worry about it - this is a very low-risk surgery and I'm sure you'll do just fine. You're at more risk staying overweight than you are having WLS.
