This stall is gonna break... right??

Recommended Posts

I'm about 6 weeks post op and am still stuck at a 24 pound loss (17 immediately post-op, the other 7 verrrrry slowly came off after the first couple weeks. I'm coming up on day 10 of a stall. Lose a pound, gain a pound, lose a pound, gain a pound.

I'm working the program, and with rare exception, am working it to near perfection. I get 64 oz of Water but want to try to start getting in more. I am averaging 400 to 600 calories per day and am meeting my minimum Protein goals (60mg, trying to figure out how to increase it to 80g without adding a bunch of calories).

What else can I do? I'm considering fasting for a day to see if that helps break the stall.

Check your sodium intake. Fiber intake bowel movements, and try adding much more fluids if you can manage it.

Safe Journey!

I was watching a YouTube video on a person who gave me a different perspective on stalls. Stalls are the body's way of recalibrating itself. You seem to be doing everything correct. Your body just need time. One of the things that I decided to do is not to have a scale as I think you can become too fixated on the number and held captive by it. You're gonna lose weight. And losing weight slowly may not be a bad thing. Just my own perspective

I don't know if this is right for you but I was told that I wasn't eating enough calories and my body was holding onto the fat as it was in starvation mode. I was on about 700 calories a day at that point so I upped it to 900 - 1000 and it broke the stall. In fact I lost 5lbs a few days after, you could try it and see what happens?

So I’m happy to report my stall “broke” 2 days ago! I was sleeved on 10/10 at 327lbs. I got down to 300.8 after 4 weeks. Then still 300.8 (exactly) at 5 weeks and 6 weeks and 6 weeks+6 days. Wednesday morning I stepped on the scale (exactly 7 weeks out and 3 weeks since I lost an ounce) and I was 299! YAY - I haven’t been under 300lbs in 10+ years! Then yesterday 298 and today 297.4. How weird!! 3 weeks of not losing anything and then 3 days in a row of losing! Obviously I’m so happy and I’ll never fear the stall again! Lol

It's the dreaded 3 week stall and it can last a few days to a few weeks. Double check that your Protein Drinks aren't hiding sugar and carbs anywhere. You do NOT need to add extra cals at this point. Up your Water, move (walk) and stay the course. You'll be fine.

I didnt' start really losing until I could start eating food (softs) with some fiber from veggies cuz my body and insulin really hated all the Protein Shakes and kept my insulin too high.

900-1000 is pretty high for being as far out as the OP is. I was almost a year out before I was at that level. I think the OP is just in a stall.

you're just in a stall. Keep doing what you're doing. I wouldn't raise calories at this point - nor would I fast (your body is still healing and needs the Protein and calories). You are fine. Just keep following the program. My first stall last two weeks. I've heard of others having it last 3-4 weeks.

I don't think that skipping meals is going to help you. You're already getting very little calories, which is normal for where you are in the program. I would advise to add more Water. You've got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
